hard to describe really. its a loud throttle based whine that goes away when the second turbo comes in. tried to record it but the sound doesn't really come through.
need a second car to (legacy GT) to compare to. boost box is getting swapped back the thing is too laggy now. think the one I have in there now is a later one as it is plumbed a bit differently.

still need to set the throttle up as well - code 24 pops up if I back off too quickly. think its due to the fact that 0.480v is meant to be the low limit and its dropping lower than that and flagging the code.

other than that its one very wild ride once it gets moving.

could that be air escaping through the BOV till it closes? i know mine sounds a bit like a whistle until i come on boost

It might be one of the crossover valves not shut fully and letting just enough air through to make a whistle.

unsure. swapped boost box thinking one of them was not working properly.

needs a VAC pump though. there is not enough VAC to run the heater and the engine as well.

still fiddling with this 'noise' BOV's (2) are next at $180 a shot.

make a vacume cannister out of soem 100mm pipe and 150 long and get some one way valves fromn the aquarium and make a vacume canister from it all....

mine has a OE one in the front left guard. probelm I have is it runs out of vac after a long climb (IE the car is ALWAYS on boost and the 5 solenoids in the boost box are running.) and when I nail it I get code 66 (TT fault.) I'm after an actual pump I can kick on when I plant the foot so I have a constant vac supply. I have the switch in place on the accelerator pedal - may as well use it.

good idea though. TT is a VERY steep learning curve for me (the fault codes anyway - the rest makes sense.)

Chris, what's the update on this? I've heard a rumor that you may have sold it? True/false?

I was hoping to see a video of this thing in action!

Cheers

nope. still have it . broke gearbox - no 2nd gear so it sits until I get $5k to fix the box properly.

I'm responsible for this rumor Chris - I thought you said you were selling it? I got that indication from an email from you at the start of the year?

$5k?! That's insane!

Glad to hear you've still got her... Yes it was Fang who said it but also said that he couldn't nail it 100% (not that I was going to mention you mate). So I thought I'd dig up the post and see what was going on. Plus its been so long since an update on this project!

Sorry to hear about the gearbox, Alex (Keffa) could suggest some quick gearbox change tips for you

Hope its all sorted after you get the gearbox set the way you want it. This wagon really is a piece of work!

MORE PICS PLEASE!!!

Cheers

Perfourmance use a fellow out coorparoo way (he's responsble for the blue 9 sec brumby.) that said worst case was $5k to totally rebuild it from scratch with a bit of a stall converter as well. I'm going on worst case.

would love a 6 spd but prefer auto in the thing. its easier to drive.

my full rebuild cost me 2650 including valve body mods for increased line pressure. That was the converter opened up and serviced and everything.

You aren't building a 9sec drag racer! you jsut need your auto freshened up.

pm me for details if you like.

I haven't read this thread for a while.
I wish I'd known about those thin fans, that "may" have worked on my car, but I've given up & am returning it to stock(ish) to sell off.

anyone want a WRX engine with factory loom to suit an L Series?:p
And a completely rust free shell:p;)

anyway, did you end up getting the water temp guage fixed to read correctly?
To do mine, I removed the water crossover pipe from the engine (requires removing the inlet manifold too), removed the EJ sensor, welded up the hole & built it up more (the L sensor is physically bigger), then redrilled & tapped the hole to suit.

I haven't played with that yet. it reads a 1/4 low so I mentally adjust for that.
still saving for the box rebuild.
