Hi Guys, new member. Am on a couple of other forums for Subys but am watching here with interest re: lifting a Gen4 Outback

Here's a couple of photos of my Suby (again, a few may have seen them elsewhere..)

I was looking at the rear wheel travel as well. I am guessing that mine will be very much the same considering the struts are basically identical. Time to start looking for a different strut spring combo for more travel.

Hey guys, there isn't much articulation available unfortunately. The nature of the multi link rear end seems to limit travel. Even with the HD springs (pre-body lift) there was only about 15mm lift.

Upward travel is reasonable but they just don't want to hang down... :(

The instructor is hanging on pretty tight...

I had thought of making some quick disconnects for the rear swaybar but totally disconnecting it makes next to no difference also. I'm no suspension engineer and am only going on explanations given to me by people in the industry. Prior to the demise of Subaxtreme (the original, at least) Jody indicated that the multi link was the big problem... :???: I'd love to see more travel too!!

The photos were taken at Melbourne 4x4 Training and Proving Ground in Mt.Cotterell, Victoria. I shouted my partner a driver training course so she could see what she, and the car, were actually capable of. Good day out, plenty of excitement keeping up with Patrols, Landcruisers, Discoveries and a Hilux!!

The bonnet deep drive along the river did get exciting!! ..and we did it more than once..

Image

It did get deeper but I was too busy directing/hanging on. Check the very front 4x's bumper bar getting deeper...

Nice beasty, I've been seriously considering similar mods to my Outback.

I've been told that the Forestor steel rims hit on the brake calipers of the Gen 3 Liberty/Outback, did you have any issues with this?

Jordan.

Hey Jordan, no clearance issues - they are 16". I believe you get issues trying to fit the earlier 15" onto Outbacks. Plenty of the newer 16" rims out there on eBay. I got 5 for $100. Saves the expensive alloys and allows me to have a set of (legal) road tyres.

hay Jordan, you can put 15" Suby alloy wheels on you 2.5 outback, but not on the H6, only 16" or bigger will fit.
I have a 2000 2.5 RX lib that has a 2" lift and outback stuts and kings springs, and I took the 16" off and put some 15" on so I could fit a bigger tyre
and not have cut my sill skirts.
the 15" fit well but have lost some space around the brakes becouse of the 15" wheels, buts thats all.

Mate, you gotta come out with us next time. I dunno when that will be, but i've got a few places in mind that are about an hour from melbourne.

Check out our last outing. There's a dial up warning as there's a fair amount of pictures to go through ;)

Welcome to the forum!

Cheers
