The new acquisition....

I know you've all been waiting to see what it is I've been working on lately so without further ado here it is!!!

This is how it was bought:

This is what it looks like now:

Although its vastly down on power compared to my nitro RC car it makes up for it by not overheating and spitting axles. It has conquered many obstacles, including the doggy door, the kerb, the front door step and the rose garden sheep poo 4x4 derby. It can't conquer the bonnet-boot L series hillclimb as the tyres can't grip the windshield. It goes quite good though considering it is only a 2wd.

Mods list:

Discarded bodyshell because it looked lame and for weight reduction
Removed bodyshell mounting brackets, same reason
Removed motor & filled gearcase with white lithium grease (better power transmission)
Removed tabs on lower part of bullbar... these were inhibiting kerb hopping duties
Originally ran 6v to the motor, now running 9v (50% power increase!).
Discarded cheap and nasty NiCad 6v battery pack
Now running 2x custom battery cases made from 300mm x 15mm threaded reticulation pipe. Each case holds 6 AA batteries and the two cases are run in parallel.
Cable ties and crimp terminals have been hiflowed and are there for cosmetic purposes
My brother has a 9v wireless CCD camera that is easily fitted to the front for cinematic view of remote dog chasing duties

Mods to come:
HID"s
Focal stereo
Underbody neons

Has it got dynamite strapped to it too? Looks a lot like a bomb on wheels.

I'll remember you said that.

Nah thats not dynamite Dave, those are the battery packs! But the thought has crossed my mind.. I could strap some bottle rockets to the top for that extra bit in the top end...

I can't seem to run the batteries flat either... they're pretty low now and the motor doesn't handle much load, but its still capable of driving around... I figure each AA has to drop to around 0.7v before its incapable of driving.

maybe i should try my next remote toy mods on one with wheels. I tried more potent rechargeables in my hovercraft but they were just a bit too heavy , but only at the front :) . Helicopter is next on the list - i won't play with it weightwise !

Big tragedy, looks like the gearbox and engine have totally exploded and its completely stuffed. There is a gear hanging out of the gearbox and fluid is everywhere. Still drives.. barely.. considering it only has 1 battery and two wheels left on it....

Its stripped a tooth off the first nylon drive gear in the gearcase meaning it makes a gnarly noise now when I drive it and the gears lock up every now and then. I think its time for a whole new car as the hobby shop doesn't sell parts for it.

into the bin.

Double points if you can guess both the WA members I just bagged out... :P

hm I just got a big smelly white splotch on my windscreen when i was driving down the freeway, what on earth could have caused that!
(I can only detect one there!)

**edit
By the way! Great thread Tim (I only just noticed it), looks like loads of fun, I've always wanted to get into RC cars propperly ever since I had my battery powered one when I was a kid. I always wanted to make one with a camera and transmitter but technology just wasn't there back then.
ps - make a damn thread for your RX!! :)
