dumb question re: [quote]

I'm sure there is a real simple answer for this, but as I am blind in one eye and cant see with the other, I couldnt see this reffered to ( I promise I did look):
When quoting someone else's replys, I generally use the
button , highlited over the text that I have copied and pasted into my reply.
as an example
but, this leaves the "quote" highlited. How do I do as others, and have :
such and such wrote:
at the top of the comment

Do it in the following way

Just lose the space between the first square bracket and the "quote" part

Or you can press the little quote button next to the post, and from there you can edit out what you want. Theoretically you could change what the person said, but it would be bleeding obvious.

Sounds like everyone who had this problem is testing here... but there again , it's probably a good thing...
