I agree Benny, it's almost not worth checking in here anymore, sadly.El_Freddo wrote: ↑Fri Dec 28, 2018 10:26 pmWell it seems it’s happened again - spam bombing of the forum in a big way.
Only 800 and something new posts. All that I can see are Russian spam posts on the first page of new posts...
Not good for the mods.
So human getting through the security setting then using a program to bomb the forum?? At least when I used to bomb the forum it was a person at the keyboard and it was Subaru related![]()

Re: Spam/other alerts
Stay the course gents, I'm sure it will get sorted eventually.
I would suggest that membership is set to Admin/Mod approval, and set new members to require post approval for the first couple of posts.

Re: Spam/other alerts
Yeah looks like 4 spam bots got in, they were probably initiated by an actual human for the initial account creation then left to run. I couldn't even delete them or their posts (unless I did them manually post by post) - they had over 5000 each and the little management interface I have just crashed out every time I tried. Had to get a guru to actually purge them out of the database.
Bit annoying but I can't really afford the time to switch it to a manual-approval process to constantly keep ontop of.

Re: Spam/other alerts
Any chance a couple of the regular/"oldskool" users are able to take on these tasks?
That said, I'd like a walk through on how to deal with reported threads in my build section. Toonga had highlighted one but on my mobile all I could really do was close or delete the report.

Re: Spam/other alerts
I'm liking the removal of the 8 images limit of the old forum!
I just hope I haven't "abused" it... but it's also good not to have to wait 30 seconds to post the next bit of a trip report!

Re: Spam/other alerts
Ok, so the new anti spam level is a little annoying but obviously necessary.
What’s frustrating is that you need to manually type in your username, otherwise you show up as a guest - and cantgo back to edit this...
So as you can see, I’ve not put my correct username in... why does this feature have to be? This is another level of frustrating that I’m not keen on.

Andrew, Thanks for the time that you do put in, it is so nice to be able to frequent the Forum without seeing pages of spam posts.AndrewT wrote: ↑Fri Jan 04, 2019 6:55 pmYeah looks like 4 spam bots got in, they were probably initiated by an actual human for the initial account creation then left to run. This “member” needs to be exiled and all their threads deleted - all spam!

The mind boggles as to why they spend so much time spamming this forum.

Re: Spam/other alerts
Ok, so I know about [bots] such as the google one that's always logged in, but what's a [spider]??
At the moment there's a "Biadu [spider]" in grey coloured font like the google [bot] is. I've not seen this before - anyone care to elaborate on what this could be (@AndrewT)?
Cheers

Re: Spam/other alerts
A 'spider' in this case is literally a web crawler from a search engine designed to catalogue/index everything. Baidu is the biggest Chinese search engine.
This should be able to be blocked in the robots.txt file (from my memory). It's possible the baidu one has not been listed.
You'll need to talk to the admin.

Some 800+ spam posts overnight with what seems to be all different usernames.
How did this happen?
