The flag and the anthem was brought in by the government as part of a national curriculum deal by the government. The states couldn't agree on one curriculum but they could say to schools, you all have to have a flag otherwise no funding.
In my opinion schools are getting softer, but the learning conditions are getting better, student are learning more through doing than reading a text book, which we can all agree with, ie learning an engine from a picture in a book, or taking it apart.
And teaching kids to behave through hitting them is not going to stop behavior issues, it will just teach them that violence is an answer to problems. Not to say the new ways are working.

I didn't mean the words as such, just the tune. It really is dull and whiney as dad put it.

I was at a mates house the other day and there was a kid, 3 or 4 years old running around with a 'Ben Ten' watch on that didn't even tell the time...
