Insurance for modified cars

Post by njsdata » Sat Jan 23, 2010 2:10 pm

Hi Everyone,
Does anybody know of a car insurer that is willing to insure modified cars? Has anyone had any positive / negative experiences with insurers after damaging modified cars and making a claim?
I would really like to hear about any / all comments.
Thanks
Nick

Justcar is probably your best/only option.

I was with them for my turbo converted L series wagon. Cost me about $550 a year for 3rd party property damage, fire and theft. I was 22 at the time and had a clean driving record
Current rides: 2016 Mitsubishi Triton GLS & 2004 Forester X
Ongoing Project/Toy: 1987 RX Turbo EA82T, Speeduino ECU, Coil-pack ignition, 440cc Injectors, KONI adjustale front struts, Hybrid L Series/ Liberty AWD 5sp
Past rides: 92 L series turbo converted wagon, 83 Leone GL Sedan, 2004 Liberty GT Sedan & 2001 Outback

Shannons insurance although can vary considerably per sales person, You can insure a diablo for cheaper than a prius with other insurers. They can customise your policy on how often you drive where you drive etc. But they specialise in cars that others wont touch!
87 targa brumby (Neglected),
92 targa brumby (weekend runabout),
97 Lifted Outback (Dailey drive),
05 outback safety (Too cheap to pass up),
90 model liberty (was to be scrapped instead sold to workmate)
+ others.
