Which TV would you get?

Post by AlpineRaven » Tue Mar 02, 2010 8:34 pm

Need a bit of a help here, I am looking at 50" Plasma TV, and I am juggling which one to get........

Samsung PS50B550T2F from JB Hi FI Ive managed to lower the price to match Good Guys for $1679

and...

LG
50PS30FD also from JB Hi Fi for $1796 but has bogus 22" LG LCD TV (which I was thinking about using it for the kitchen) (they cant drop the price due the deal)

Now its very hard to compare both TVs, Samsung has 0.01ms refresh rate - unknown what LG has.. Both has USB ports for JPEG/MP3, both are full HD.

I like the deal with LG with free 22" worth $500.... so really I paid like $1296 for 50" TV...!!

I'm more of LG person than Samsung, I'd rather Sony/JCV over LG/Samsung.

What would you go for?

Cheers

LG... LG!! In my experience an LG has a better picture than the rest (I am not saying it is better quality - just better to look at!) Check in any store and an LG is easier on the eyes!

I would never get another Samsung - their customer service is a disgrace. The TV was faulty when delivered - the most recent service under warranty took 6 weeks waiting for the main board to arrive - no TV for the duration.

my samsung is about 6 months old, it has the worst sound I have ever heard, dull, hard to make out, and samsung could not care less they told me to buy a surround set of speakers, all they were interested in was selling me them .

don't buy any TV that isn't 3d compatible.

coz if you do by the end of this year your tv will be obsolete

(that's why im waiting for the release of 3d TV's before i buy one)

We have had no problems with our Samsung Plasma. You will find that LCD and Plasma screens are only made by 2 companies and the rest of the electronics is made by the various companies. The only way to choose is to pick the one that you like the picture on .Take your favourite DVD or Blu-Ray disc and ask them to show that disc. If they don't walk away. Also ask that you be allowed to adjust the settings etc. A lot of showrooms have the demo sets set up specially for the show room and the unit out of the box will not look the same without some messing around with the settings.
Hope this helps.

Ok,
Just ended up buying Samsung - got better deal for $1480 with free extended warranty - couldnt walk away with a good deal, LG was the same but you had to pay extra for extended warranty ($300 extra)
Installed it this morning on wall mount, very nice TV and very happy with the quality (my father in law already has 6 mths old Samsung but older model and works okay, but noticed the difference between his and ours.)

So at the end of the day, a brand is a brand, very hard to compare between LG & Samsung, if I had the money i would have bought LG.
Cheers & thanks guys.

Just be careful with the Samsung Plasma's as I have 2 friends here on the SSC whose Plasma's have turned themselves on during the night and so far 1 has been replaced with a totally new TV as Samsung don't make parts for that model anymore and they have gone away from Plasma apparently.

The 2nd friend has yet to make a claim on his Plasma as his TV, the first friend waited 12 weeks for it to be sorted out and Samsung only sorted it out after he threatened them with legal action a story on ACA & TDT.

We have a Samsung LCD 46" LCD and it is absolutely fabulous.

Plasma screens are not being made as much as they were, both Pioneer and Visio have halted production and LG and Samsung are looking at doing the same

so buyer beware the salespeople know this but don't pass that information onto the public

and IMHO go for the 2 for one deal but push for a discount as they will fold, if they don't walk out and watch as their manager tells them off

I have a Samsung LED series 7 46" and it is the bombdidley.

Hands down the best picture for the money.

When the 3D tv's come out, if they end up worth buying i'll use the samsung for my computer monitor. Nothing like playing combat flight sims on a massive HDMI tv.
