I missed the today tonight on Monday story of frozen veggies shipped from China to our shores via NZ. Think they got NZ birth certificate. The replay link of the story has been removed from where I looked so not got facks straight, or have I?

But, I got to see the story on fruit juices on our shelves shown a week or two later.
Some of those portrayed to be in the know, claim that all of our juices on the shelf - non refrigerated will contain imported ingredients. Best chance to be buying local content is fruit juices from the refrigerated sections of our supply stores.

The main concern of the article was that some sources may not adhere to same standards and contain some 'unnecessary' chemicals not natural to the product.

Alex I now grow my own Aussie garlic It's easy. Buy some organic garlic, put it in the fridge for a couple of weeks(tricks it into thinking it had a winter) then just poke individual cloves in the ground.
I usually plant in April and pull it up in January
one clove turns into a whole bulb of cloves.
Early this year I bought Giant organic purple garlic from "Peaches" in Fremantle

the "unnecessary", or more "unwanted", includes POO...HUMAN POO!

Yes some of these countries use HUMAN poo as well as chook poo etc for fertilizer.

I have a very sensitive friend who was really enjoying the chinese "ya pears" till i told her bout the fertilizers...she was very unhappy! I dont think she even looked at another piece of fruit for a week...& shes a vegetarian lol

I suppose telling her that all the bad stuff from human waste is left in the ground and has nothing to do with the fruit would be little comfort

a favourite name of , well , lets call it a pop paddle, come in ice water confectionery form as well as the old favourite 70% milk ones. I was shouted my last i.w.c. p.p. today - made in China. Milk ones still made here I hope due to milk content laws
