The idiot greenies are trying to have camping in certain areas banned completely. There has/is also talk about closing off sections off beach in front of the towns, very much like they have done at Rainbow beach.
This has more bad than good points if I felt like sitting down and listing them. I don't think it will go ahead either as too much bushland just behind the dunes would have to be destroyed to make the track around them.
The worst news of all is that Double Island point will have a permit requirement to access in the very near future unless people power can stop it. The NPWS has let the power go to their head and the government is letting them. They are trying to reduce numbers of people accessing the area by limiting the number of permits issued each year. They are also lining their pockets with the access fees which will put the place out of reach financially to the every day bloke that uses the beach as an inexpensive way to take their families out.
R.A.M. (Recreational area management) is the new name they are spruking for all the local islands. Bloody good idea to have a committee to look after these islands (Bribie, Moreton, Fraser, Teewah) but absolutely &%$^en ridiculous to have a seperate fee for each area.
NSW has it down pat with a National parks permit that allows access to all parks with the one permit/fee. QLD is just money hungry clowns that have put no thought in to this from a "users" point of view.
Imagine you visit each of these places twice a year but never in the same month. The cost would be $240 just to access the area. That does not include camping or any of the barges to get there.
If you travel to the beach more than that you can buy yearly permits at $110 a pop. Getting out of reach of a low income family isn't it.
The is also a total open fire ban on all of these places. Another PITA in our opinion. We used to use our camp oven every day when away. We would prepare our food in the AM, put it in the camp oven, dig a hole and put it in, then cover with coals and bury the lot. No way at all that a fire could start because of it and our food would be cooked when we got back in the evening.
Despite all of this they can't keep me away. Fraser is fantastic no matter how much the NPWS stuff it up.

We still have dumbarse rules with some parks included in the parks pass some aren't and require fees ($36 a day pp for parts of the Oxley Wild Rivers NP!!!!)BYB-01 wrote: NSW has it down pat with a National parks permit that allows access to all parks with the one permit/fee. Oh yeah, and Marine Parks, and no cast nets and the pacific highway etc etc
QLD has a far better deal than us.... But yeah, a "Sunshine Parks" Pass would be a better option.....
Nothing was closed off as yet. Got a leaflet on the spots they are going to close off. Brett or Dave will tell more. Take away all the backpackers and Fraser would have a chance of surviving. It is covered in signs. Killing so many trees to make walking tracks, and cutting them down to make lookouts.
Had a great holiday anyway.
