Anyone into military and stuff ?

I took pic with imperial rule by its side but guessing ammo has been metric for long while. Is almost 50mm in diameter, but may be spot on 2" at the compressin bulge at the near base ?? So, 7 1/2" or 192mm long as it stands now .....

Found this empty, rusty shell, alloy head, with rusty tip on a bushwalk maybe ten years ago outside Canberra

How does still dangerous sound. The top looks to be a badly damaged percussion cap, I really hope it isn't.

Looks to be a training round that was dropped from the sky, what does the bottom look like?

A wild guess because I can.
Well it doesn't seem to be a Gun bullet,
Maybe small tank round,
Looks a bit like a grenade of some sort.
Do we have any war veterans on Ausubaru?

German WW11

Post by olddog642 » Sun Sep 23, 2012 2:25 pm

I would say it is a rifle grenade that was used by the Germans early to mid WW11 against tanks.Possibly issued to the Wehrmacht on home guard duty.
I'm guessing it was brought back by a Digger and was later stolen by some opportunist, who then dumped it in the bush when it was realized how easy to be caught with stolen goods.
