i think the phrase the air will heat up is correct as the pressure is being increase (this takes energy to do this).
They did indeed use 'the air will heat up' as the correct answer. Technically, they should have said the temperature will increase instead of using the term 'heat'.

Although it takes energy to compress air, it does not impart the energy (or work) used to perform the compression into the air being compressed.

Pretty sure thats what you're getting at.

Cheers

i got 78% and in my defence i didnt read the questions properly and rushed thru it. also theres too many about gears lol
Gears, pulleys and belt drives are an excellent way to determine mechanical aptitude, the one about "choose which pulleys rotate in the opposite direction to the one with the arrow" and then there was 8 pulleys - brilliant question!

You can't pick on the wording as it would have been written by an engineer, and most of them are practically illiterate (joking!)

lol - engineer stereotypes can be quite accurate at times!

They try to teach engineers how to communicate while they're at uni these days. Time will tell if this can ever make much of a difference.

But I do agree - it is a pretty good aptitude test. Some prior knowledge of fundamental principles is required to do well on it, but alot can be figured out from scratch.
