The green string type stuff you use to tie your shelter individual x1 (hootchie) to a tree or something. Amazingly strong and useful for other things too.

This is a "hootchie" and "hootchie chord" is the dark green chord - string (guy ropes) to tie it to the trees or DIY poles and can be used for a multitude of things in the field, when I was in the Army they were all a dark green in color not like the one in the link.

Hootchie cord is even well known in the Navy - we use it for lashing down odds and sods(mainly the gunnery types!!) and weaving our gun belts(similar to a carpenters tool belt but for our marlin spikes, boom knives and minesweep pliers).

Hootchie cord was also good for converting the SLR(FAL) to full rock and roll instead of only semi-auto(it was easy to remove before the company CSM arrived to see who had done it...;))

I jumped the fence and went to the RAN from 25RQR in Toowoomba(just before they became 25/49RQR!!). All my family was ARA and were just glad I became a skimmer vice a "Chappie"

Or for those of us still serving, Hootchie cord is available at any local Q-store, for Free! (work related of course)!

How so? I knew (and used) the old-matchstick-under-the trigger-spring (least that I think it was called) to gain full auto capability
