Hi all,
I have read quite abit about rego, the pits, p plates etc and I'm wondering what brought this about, or if it has always been this way in AU. Here in the states we seem to be able to do just about anything we want as far as mod's go. I have heard of bumber height limits as in the '80's the craze here was to lift your 4x4 as high as possible and run the tallest street legal tires you could buy. The only other problem I could forsee is if you were to cause a high dollar accident your insurer may have a way out of covering you due to stock vechicle alterations.

Its basically a big, bullshit, government way of sucking more dollars out of the public and telling them its for thier own good. Minorities run this country. Our political system is so screwed up that every polly will sell his soul for a preference vote from a minority if it is offered. Don't get me started on the greens and marine parks!

As far as screwed up political stuff, I don't think it could be any worse than the USA due to it's current president. Here's our proof

Alot of the P plate restrictions are ridiculous. these laws should be Australia wide, not differ from state-to-state. The majority of theses laws are just a money making exercises in the long run

It's certainly not a new thing. The laws regarding drivers, demerit points and vehicle mods have slowly been geting tougher over the years. As has been said, each state dreams up it's own set of rules.

Demerit points? How do they work and what are the consequences?

All the states are different but in QLD I think you get 12 points with an open licence. You lose points for minor traffic infringemnts like speeding, not wearing a seatbelt etc and when you run out of points they take your licence away.

I'm a bit rusty on the current points scheme because I don't lose any points because I use an interstate licence (shhhhhh).

i'm pretty sure you can lose your points fom any state in any state.They standardized it a few years ago.

If you dont have points to start with it really doesnt matter does it??? Yeh sure if you have a NSW licence and get done speeding in QLD you still lose the points but having a Darwin or Interstate one have no points system as far as i am aware?

I see they changed the rules on motorbike licenses. I was going to do it but now they've made it so you can only ride a 250cc up first, which imho is farken rude and dangerous, so I won't be bothering any time soon.

The 250cc limit is only for 12 months Wilbur. Then you proceed to the 650cc limit for another year, then you get to open.
If a big deadly crotch rocket is on your wish-list, the sooner you get your 250 licence the better.

Yikes! Here ( by my experience ) they will send a letter warning you that you may be classified as a habitual offender resulting in a 5 year revocation. I received my letter just before my 17th b-day. We start at 16 and I grew up with plenty of used late '60's muscle cars avail pretty cheap. Eventually they got mine for 2 years ( only because I crashed )
