I HATE the sales dudes that keep trying to tell me matte black is the same as flat black - just different names between manufacturers. They can go fact themselves. I bought some matte finish coz they no longer stock flat (but its the same!) and it has a slight sheen to it. It is not the same as flat, ya little turds!!

Go google it and get the same complaint, both explanations. Flat has zero sheen, matte has some. I need flat for my wiper arms that are starting to shine and reflect bright light directly at the back of my retinas. I do not want a sheen here at all. Who has chromed theirs in the past???

OK ya little Bummings sales turd, "I wish to purchase black undercoat, or black primer or even black ceiling paint will do , can you help me kind sir?"

Try bumper spray paint if they have it, think you would like the finish.

Also the Killrust matte black is a favourite of mine.

Go to a servo and buy some polarised sun glasses, should only cost about $30

Best protection from glare that money can buy.

White Knight paints do a rattle-can satin black that is as close as I've seen to the original finish. Only problem I have with it is it doesn't last that long unless prepared with etch primer or similar.

For flat black, try one of the tiny tins type products. Looks a bit average though when on the vehicle.

use whatever style paint then run abit of sandpaper over it once it dries

found a smidge of duplicolour/holts flat black today and was enough for a quick coat before a few pics taken to send to T'subaru. Five series of polishing to get it back to BEST on the bodywork. FLAT on wipers just to finish things off.

A wander through super cheep found matt black in export brand, they do satin or was it flat? and gloss. The finish on plastic looks almost flat or satin

but it appears to do the job at hand.

Was in Bunnings having another look earlier and a sales guy came along helping a customer with flat black purchase and of course the busy man disappeared before I got a chance to ask, so I said to the customer "flat ain't same as matte is it?" and his reply was "nah, matte is no sheen at all, like chalkboard" GIVE THAT MAN A JOB AT BUNNINGS!

Maybe not ! Back at same issue, and been painting a few things with that left over can of cheap matte finsish black paint from SCA. The finish can be due to prep, but this end result still had a sheen to it not want I wanted in a gauge surround. Off to a hardware joint where staff uniform still blends in well with their pallet racking, found a new gen staffer with paint on his clothes, told him what I was doing, wanted no sheen at all, and if I had to chalkboard paint sheen is what I wanted. Showed me the sheen graph on the back of a tin, telling me not much difference between matte and flat, but, flat was at the lower end of the scale, and that brand had flat and matte, side by side on the shelves.

I found the SCA matte finish would wipe off with a soft wipe of wax and grease remover ffs! So, it was not going to be a good primer on top of the factory gauge rim finish, and taking a shortcut with one gauge proved that

But, happy to share that british paints spray pack range in 310g tins have a flat black that is so bloody close to black board finish and they could also be arsed to make a flat finish cap for the tin (unlike the cheapo brands with glossy cap and text still on tin claiming it to be a high gloss enamel!) is under $8, more than $7 at time of typing. Nearly three times the price of store brand, no name stuff, but getting what I wanted - flat black
