Hey Trevor, hope you are well!
What they will do is have an associate pop a 'realistic' bid on a little bit ahead of their stated end time (he notes that this is earlier than the ebay stated time) this means they can let the auction run or simply end before close. The associate will of course never actually buy the item, he is simply used as an insurance against having to sell at a low bid price.
If of course someone is keen and enters a bidding run against another bidder then they can sit back and watch to see if they go over what their intended initial bid would be.
Its all done to excite people into getting drawn in to bid!
Another tactic is to use the associate to bid up any initial punters bid to where the seller needs the price to be.
Any buyer should simply have his top limit and stick to it. AND thump that bid on only as a last resort around 20 seconds before auction end time! Nail biting stuff! You either win the item or not.....
Cheers
Giles.

Well I saw that it was I would say repossessed vehicles from a finance company and I was just about to jump on. We had a big footy game here tonight between New South Wales and Queensland and I thought, well everyone will be watching the footy and I'll grab a bargain. I'll take a week off, fly to Sydney and drive the thing home. I reckon that its virtually a tender process and they're using ebay to place the add . Because there is no facility to place a bid, you wouldn't know where your bid sits in the pecking order.
By the way, good to hear from you Giles. I have been following your posts. Trevor

Think your right Trevor, they will possibly charge you $9.00 to place the bid!
Then its down to a blind tender by the looks of it ! - I had missed the fact that there was no bid facility.
Cheeky buggers......
Was the footy the state of origin? What was the score?
Cheers
Giles.

Yes state of Origin.. Queensland won...New south wales launched a late comeback but ran out of time. I've seen tougher games but it rained heavily and that alters the whole thing with ball handling and tactics. score was 28-24.
