Just been advised by my agent in the US that three flat rate boxes US$56 each 9 kg limit ( and he squeezed two to their max!!) have been lodged with his local USPS for dispatch to the southern hemisphere. RX rear disc brake of an 86 sedan with 199,000miles on its clock, aw , that'd be a laugh - a miles per hour speedo in metric Australia.
The clock starts 10.00am Tuesday Sydney time.
tick, tick, tick,tick,tick
Now, remember, my first quote to shift this as one package with one popular company as a one off job was A$1100, yeah, eleven hundred smackers, likely to be delivered in four or five days, but $1100. Sheesh! Figure then slimmed down to A$700, then a further reduction by another method. To get this down to about A$200 is a major achievement

sorry not new hahah
in a subaru though hmmm never seen one.
got loads for the datsuns and minis, first off you just mark roughly where the speed is, then you had a sticker over them that converted them, till they banned them =( i still belive you can get away with the sticker method if its a historic
btw good job on getting the gear, im plannign to do a round the world hunt for my bits, fly over to nz, usa, or pay a freind to pack them in crates and send em over here and try and make a buck

I know there was a company around that made stickers for HEAPS of 70s-era cars with speedo's in miles instead of km. I think it was a SA mob, I fitted one on my Valiant (1971 model) at least 15 years back and still see them now and than at swapmeets. Didn't know they were illegal though...
Parcel - I would say 10-12 days max. If it's west coast US you can knock off a few days.
Dean.

thats probably why you see them. yeah on a valiant youd get away but on somthing like a fordescort rust bucket daily driver, with normal rego its illegal. only if immaculate and historic so you dont lose the feel or somthing like that:mrgreen:

might be a south aussie thing being illegal - there'd be an inspection bulletin on this in NSW if so, 36mph = 60, 50 = 80, 62.5 = 100, 70 = ~ 110 and 118 = 192
My first car was in miles so seen that, but a post metric 1973 car like an L with mph might justify me doing the old fashioned ton in error

Looks impossible to send an email to dumb questions officer at USPS, so googled and came up with
Priority Mail International is usually delivered in 5-7 days on average. This is barring any delay in clearing the destination country Customs Service.
And another that suggests up to 30 days, and a call to customs to ask where it is may speed things up

All my USPS Flat Rate boxes and Envelopes take 10 days no matter where in the US (except maybe Alaska...) in came from.

$200.00 what deal did you get Steptoe, Deck Cargo on a Submarine.I hope what you are bringing in is actually XT6 5 stud rear end bits, normal RX gear just aint worth the cost and effort there are other options locally that work out cheaper and that doesn't include the crossbred kit

My 67 Beetle is still in miles. Doing mental gymnastics (5/8 = miles to Km) used to keep we awake on the weekly commute from Maffras to Maldon!
Anyway, who needs speedo - Beetle gear changes are by ear!

Hey Steptoe,
Just as a guide, my USPS delivery (Full EA81 gasket set from westendengineparts) has now landed in UK took approx 6 days US to UK then sat in UK customs clearance for 5 more days. Just had a letter saying I can collect it and pay the UK VAT tax (purchase tax) and collect it from Leeds depot (30 mins away).Doing this Monday.
Hope your stuff is as quick and easy.....
Cheers
Giles

Thanks Giles, I hope there is no VAT on mine!! Got a price on postage of head gaskets at 44.05US, I may ask them to consider flat rate envelope at a third of that.
Shame these things don't come with passport stamps showing their route. Nothin' but water and Hawaii between Portland and me.

CLICK, CLICK, note time,
just seven days. Two boxes have arrived, waiting at PO in 5 minutes time coz I was not home when the guy came by. Keep stop watch going for the third parcel

Third CLICK. And only stamp-licker would know why, why the third did not come with the first two. My oh my. USPS has no tracking on these flat rate boxes BUT Aussie Post does once they enter Australia. Someone within Aus Post defaced my third parcel and redirected it to a street of same name - in another flipping state ! It was clearly Marked like the others, and clearly freakin' changed and finally marked "Del As Addressed"
Although the Aus Post woman on the line said I could not intercept it - I DID. Found it at the second Mail Centre I went to
So 100% satisfied with USPS flat rate boxes and their travel times
