well it is official it was cold this morning
how cold?
frozen brumby
frozen liberty
liberty moved to garage to thaw out
now while for some this is a normal morning ritual here in WA it doesn't happen that often (or it didn't) this isn't the first morning we have had ice but it is the coldest so far with the most ice, normally just the windscreen gets iced but this morning both cars looked like giant popsicles
and at 8 am it was 3.5 degrees celcius

SOFT or what ! Man, I normally get this greeting when I knock off work and the ice scraper seems to be in the other car (why not another scraper I hear you ask?) or scraping does stuff all.
I have tried insulating blacket on screen but as you drive it just finds any moisture in air and BAM - IT'S WORSE.
Need to idle quietly in the 'hood or drive with head out window, other window down, into quieter spot to warm up. Very handy are the 15 dollar snowboarding gloves from ALDI - and all I really want to do is get home to bed.
You have now put me off the idea of migrating to Perth for a warm city near an economy, beaches, state pride etc
Hope it does not happen to you again !!

Just wait til you can't open your door due to ice freezing it shut! You'd be surprised how much your window will flex before the ice gives way - haven't had one break yet and hope never to have that happen! I guess the bits of window will be frozen together so it'd be an easy clean up!
I've got a few frost photos if you want me to share
Steptoe, you can't call these boys soft - you've got a SNUGGIE remember! That puts you lower than soft in the cold scales
Cheers

Gannon, did you not get my PM? Your kind offer of your preloved (erk) snuggie was declined. Cheers Jonno

Oi ! Watch it!! ... what you mean 15 deg ??? it was tropical here today mid 20 s. Very nice too, plus sorry to say this but getting gradually warmer - could hit 28 29 this weekend (hopes!)
That there frost is a barstool I can tell you!
Best (and cheapest - Yorkshire man speaking here) way to rid it off ya motor is.......
tepid water NOT BOILING just warm enough to shift the ice away and get the wipers on quick to shift melt away. ( I have to do this all thro winter in the dark)
Lots cheaper than de icer and doesnt smear the screen.
Pour it from a PET bottle or similar then I hurl that back into the garden/yard before screeching away in the car.
Then lots of (getting hotter) air blowing on the screen. Full blast.
Frozen door seals/ locks/windows - very annoying but the tepid water again is the best quick fix.....no use tugging the door and breaking somthing or buggering up a key / lock.
QUESTION..
How do you guys manage with some brumbys with out the choke in the cold?
Its just that I was offered a choke free carby conversion when I bought mine from recarb.
I had sort of imagined that down under you had 365 sunshine / warm weather to enjoy.

a big green bin with wheels so you can fit a weeks worth of rubbish in it then drag it to the curb so a truck can come and empty it
they stink on high
here is a good use of one

as for the brumby with out choke the holley left puddles of fuel in the manifold so it didn't need a choke but I do know that if you don't have one then you have to have a good battery
as you will be restarting heaps before you go anywhere

Made by SULO in some parts , so called a SULO bin. We have gone to once a week garbage collection in street by the 'dustman' UK and QLD term? or "garbo's" in NSW, whereas when we had tin garbo bins had twice weekly. I have one for household (oh yeah, right) waste, one for recycling paper, bottles tins and one for green waster recycle.
Cauacasion guy recycled? Was he missing any vital organs? Hope he only went in the night before decomp got too serious !!

TOONGA - you are not knockng my childhood hero are you? No one else in the world can use a wobble board like Rolf Harris !!
One day, just one day I will prepare self with thermos of hot water that will be tepid by the time I come to need it to defrost. I uselitre jug of tepid water, one of those coloured sponges the size of a slice of bread and a squeegee to remove before refreeze - when I am at home and prepared.

Well, its been no warmer than -4 today

Only problem is there's no moisture in the air so no snow. But you get a good exfoliation on your walk to work in the morning with this gale that's out there now...
Current temp: -4.4 >:D Last night I saw the gauge at -6.5! Still no moisture in the air, but the snow making making machines were going nuts!
Cheers

My dad recently reminded me of when I was a little fella we lived in a house that got so COLD - by morning the condensation on the inside of the bedroom windows was frozen so hard you needed to dig fingernails into it to remove it ! House was built before insualtion was heard of in walls or ceiling. 1000m above sea level, snowman country.
