What treasures you find on the roadside

Post by steptoe » Fri Sep 03, 2010 2:16 pm

I stopped to collect a lost IRWIN quick grip off the road today ( a big one too :) ) and wondered if others stop to pick up these little lost treasures.

Recent finds have been:
900mm step ladder Baileys tradesman,
1800 step ladder in smithereens for its scrap value,
22mm Snap On impact socket handy for front pulley bolts :)
12 , 13 mm ring spanner known brand
10mm 3/8 drive minimax socket with spring band a ball retainer jigger
roll of bear maskng tape,
the odd screwdriver

all with a bit of gravel rash

On the other side a mate lost his good LED worklight but had another Narva come in under another bonnet, and that lasted a few months before it went off to find a mate :) :)

Hehehe... road side specials!

I once picked up 5 metres of driveway guttering. Its now draining the area out the front of the shed at home :D

I've got a shifter I found once when cycling to benders. Unfortunately found a Bon Jovi DVD on the side of the hume when we pulled up to check something on the subi - I know why they turfed it out the window, it was sucky Jovi...

There's been more but I can't remember what they are, I'll keep thinking ;)

Cheers

The Stuff you find - and where it takes you!!

Post by 1111giles » Fri Sep 03, 2010 7:32 pm

Me and my Dad once found a Stock 8 metre length of 50x50x4 mm hollow section - high up on the moors between Yorkshire and Lancashire. It had quite literally 'fallen off the back of a waggon'
We initially hid it in the heather and decided to come back for it later that same day (after dark)

The howler is we had a real old beat up Vauxhall Victor (going back a bit hehe) car - Dad and I lifted it on the roof roped it down and tip toed home -about 10 miles under cover of the night so as to avoid attention from the Cops. With bar swaying about and roof reformed into a channel with the weight !

A couple of kicks from inside sorted the roof back out:mrgreen:
And the Hollow section was cut and welded into a Concrete mixer frame......
3 years later we were in business actually making and selling Concrete Mixers ! Based on the prototype we made from our find:D
We went on to make about 5,000 of them. Happy days:D

more phones than I can remember, I turn them on (if they are in working condition) and wait for the owner to call.

I had one boyfriend demanding an explaination as to how I got his girls phone so I said to him come and get it and we will talk

when he saw me he soon shut up and realised she was telling the truth

quite a few wallets most empty but on the odd occasion some with cards and money in tact

tools assorted bits and bobs all with gravel rash

car parts eg: fan belts, spark plugs, wheel nuts, springs etc

a surfboard the owner soon showed up for that (it was on my front lawn)

Wow where do you guys drive? ;) Most I ever found was a sharpie, oh and some Liberty parts - Looked like someone had a prang and just left their bumper, hub caps, subaru badge and some other broken plastic.

After spending the weekend at Two Rocks, I'm convinced Guyph is the Roadside King.. he would take a week just to list the stuff he has collected :???:
