Hanging out at the Perth Airport 13NOV10

G'day all.

Got a bored shitless situation going on at the perth airport... Mrs Bennie and I have a 4 hour (now 3 hour since having some lunch) wait for our connecting flight to broome where we'll be for the next 7 nights 8) There's only a hand-full of people here. We've pretty much got the same thing on the return flight home...

Its times like these that I wish I had a car to use - I love my subi as most of you probably do too. Its made me realise just how convenient it is to have a set of motorised wheels at times! It'd be great to duck into perth for a couple of hours between flights - I'm too tight to catch a cab and hate doing that anyway.

In other news, Ruby Scoo's still at home without gearbox oil in her. The oil was dropped earlier this week (after the flooding episode), I just haven't had the time to put some fresh stuff in there :( The oil from the gearbox came out in a caramel colour similar to the caramel in a mars bar, it wasn't translucent either. The rear diff oil which I have not changed since swapping it into Ruby Scoo was grey :(

So first thing to do after getting home will be to get ruby going again. For now I'm going to enjoy the next 7 days in Broome! And go look for a powerpoint to charge up macca for the next leg of movie watching :D

Cheers

Bennie

Thanks Richard! We are enjoying the honeymoon - should be even better now that we've lined up some stuff to do for the week :D

Sorry Dave, I've lost everyone's numbers that I used to have after the '07 bbq road trip and things happened pretty quick after thursday night. Wish I'd packed a better variety of t-shirts now...

Hehehe... You would've been the first to get a text from me - If I had your number! Well be back this coming weekend, then I'm off on camp for the 5 weekdays after that... By early december we'll be down at Lakes Entrance, you'll definitely want to come visit that part of the world!

We are. Its warm and a little humid... we're loving it! I kinda don't want to leave, but there's only one school in town and I'm not sure that they've got the subjects I teach :???:

Seen 1 L series today, got pretty excited, then made me think of Ruby Scoo abandon at home with no gearbox oil in her...

Thanks Pedro! We've got a town tour tomorrow morning, then the arvo to hang out by the beach and chill out :D

Tuesday sees us head to the pearl farm - I'm looking forward to seeing how this is done. Then in the evening we're going down to the beach for a camel ride 8) Should be sweet.

The rest of the week is up in the air, but we've hired a little suzuki 4wd for some beach action as well as checking out the mango farm where they make their own wines etc.

All in all it should be a blast before having to return back to the fun hustle and bustle of everyday life chasing a dollar...

I'll see if I can get approval to post up a pic of mr & mrs bennie ;)

Cheers

And here we are again... 3 hours this time.

An hour to go before boarding begins now. We had to chase dinner. Most of the food vendors around here either serve sandwiches/baguettes and those that do a hot meal other than toasted sangas have closed their kitchens already - this was at 7:55pm...

Now I'm online (obviously) and have a new 4wd monthly mag on custom builds  I'm pretty sorted. Ah, also I've got my wife too, thought I'd better add that.

Cheers

Boarding now so

SEE YA PERTH - I hope to actually visit you next time - sooner rather than later.

Dunno if it will be in Ruby Scoo or not, but here's hoping :D

And now we wait at Melbourne Airport. I'm not sure which one I like better - Perth is generally dead, Melbourne is all hustle & bustle. Broome airport was good, I liked that one...

We landed over an hour ago. Our flight had about half of the seats filled if that. A bit of sleep went well.

Can't wait to get home, sleep, then say hello to ruby - followed by filling her with gearbox and diff oils...

I'll end now as I can feel myself ranting on in the daze that air travel forces upon you. Plus my wife is threatening to bash me, I think this is a hollow threat as we are in public and I may not pick her up from the airport when she returns from Tassie :D

Cheers

"Perth is generally dead..." the amount of times I've heard that from people about the airport and Perth itself I've heard it called Nanaland as well. Truely it comes down to who you know in Perth and just how long you have to party :)

if you ever fly on a budget airline to Singapore, when you land you could actually believe that you had landed at Perth airport mind you if you land at Terminal 1,2 or 3 be prepared to have a good shopping and eating experience

Bennie I hope you and the missus had a great time in Broome and please excuse Perth airport, it embarrasses the hell out of me every time I come home

You can't always be entertained by others - have to create your own fun and amusement sometimes - say a little icing sugar around the nostrils perhaps? And pop over to the international terminal :)

Hehehe... Well, still running on the 2 hours sleep I got on the plane. I've replaced the oils in Ruby, repaired a CV boot that had slipped off - the grease was in good condition even though it had been completely submerged, there was traces of the dirty water I was stuck in. Cleaned it all out, replaced the grease with fresh stuff then used some hose clamps to hold the boot on instead of that dodgy strap that's a pain in the arse to use... The trick is to punch some holes in the hose clamp with a pin point punch - this allows the hose clamp to grip the boot so it won't slip off.

I'll let you know how that goes.

After doing this CV boot, I remembered that I need a new one on the other shaft and that my front driver's inner boot is also dead in some way - its leaking grease. I think the exhaust and cat being so close is the issue here. Will need to make a guard.

Took Ruby for a drive - the rear bearings definitely need to be replaced and I'd like to check the fronts as they are sealed units but I still don't trust them. Would like to look into pressurised hubs or hub breathers...

Toonga - I'm pretty partial to Melbourne airport's design - a couple of wings spread out in a semi circle like arrangement, domestic and international side by side. Just the speed and disregard for everyone else that everyone moves with bothers me. Damn my country upbringing (not!). I do like the fact that perth is so quiet, just hate stop overs that aren't long enough to head away for a while when you don't really know your way around but aren't short enough not to be a pain in the arse by wasting time. A direct flight between melbs and broome I reckon would be about 5 hours - not 8 & 1/2...

Kez was annoyed with me posting that she was going to bash me - she's not like that at all, but likes to play with the way she hollow threatens me :D

Anyway, bedtime now - have to get my arse out of bed at a reasonable hour - victorian time - to be on a school camp for the week. Should be a good one, we're by the beach with loads of activities to undertake 8)

I'm done with flying for now. I'll stick with my "low level flying" with my 3 inch lift kit ;)

Cheers

Bennie
