A Great Story

sorry guys but this story has been in and out of the news here for months and sadly it is just going to make a bad thing way worse here

the mechanic apparently was "doing his job" when the story first broke

and the owner of the car was most upset that his car was impounded

my question is why didn't the owner book time at Barbagello so the mechanic could "do his job"

this judge has opened up a big can of worms for Trev, Bazza, Shazza and all the other "race car drivers in WA"

while it has been a "win" for this mechanic who was "doing his job"

things are just going to get worse as every other rev head uses the "Top Gear" excuse

why am I so pissed about this, because off a fatality I attended a few years ago (first on the scene) which was caused by the driver (died on final impact) and another idiot racing on the Kwinana freeway.

I can still to this day hear his wife's screams and smell the blood that was gushing from the giant hole in his head

What car, who was driving and why seems pretty irrelevant. What it boils down to is wether or not the method used to determine the vehicles speed is legally enforcable. Seems like the issue is the police never determined the vehicles exact speed, which i'm pretty sure is what is needed. The fact it was a lambo, the driver was been a tool, the cop was in a ford falcon and the Judge likes Top Gear just makes it a circus. If it was a traffic cop hiding in the bushes with a radar, video rolling and a persuit vehicle to chase him in then the driver would've been toast and the car impounded.

Seems a bit dodgy, I mean why should this guy get off just cos it was a lambo and the judge is a top gear fan. I don't fully agree with all of the road laws here and they are a bit harsh, but it just seems to me like maybe the judge knew the guy somehow and is letting him off easy. Just speculation, but whatever this story is only gonna make things worse for car enthusiasts either way.

Agreed. And if an actual speed wasn't worked out - as Venom pointed out - why was the speed of 160km/h (and not gaining) used as a base figure in the argument?

I reckon this car should have been impounded once it was found. I know this would have happened in bendigo regardless of who was driving! Then go after who was driving it - everyone can point fingers but there's only one person who could've been at the wheel at the time of the offence.

Then there's the every day driver like the rest of us - gets done for 10km/h over the limit, and if you're lucky enough to live in the nanny state like me, you can get done for 3km/h over the limit! That is seriously over the top!
