smart rrrr's been under my bonnet

Post by steptoe » Sat Sep 03, 2011 7:01 pm

I took the Vort out for its first run after months of toil and trouble working on it. Pulled up to show a few aquaintances, left the bonnet up, got distracted. Started her up and off to the next show and shine, quick pitstop, picked up my farmer uncle and off to the next show n shine.... all this while I thought the exhaust had developed a little rattle. A 100km later I pull the bonnet to check something else and can hear this exhaust rattle louder and stronger - there is my coil lead pulled off the cap and sitting between two cylinders posts and buzzing across to the coil post of dizzy cap. Engine off - noise fixed. These are new leads I fitted - nice snug fit - how.... then thinking, while the bonnet was up, someone thought they'd be funny and give me a no start :) What a bloody good spark that coil produced!!

Vort still ran, gave no hesitation - except maybe just once, and still to get use to it, did not exactly fly up some big hills in top......

Got some catching up to do if that coil lead does not come off again on its own

I am just wondering now.... the coil lead is not al that snug in the cap, either since some smarty pulled it or it did come out of its on accord. Brand spankers quality custom made leads. It has a neat laser cut line burnt out from the top of the post down about 8mm so if it did pop out slowly zapping and cutting as it found a nice place to rest while driving. Unc nearly (being old school) reached down to put it back in place while running - am still looking for bonnet stay hole in the dark with bonnet in my hands, verbally reminding him not to touch THAT spark. he already had a blackened hand and a few holes burnt into him from 240V 10A power source a little earlier yesterday :)

That was a new dizzy cap too :(
