offline eftpos transactions

Post by Alex » Tue Sep 20, 2011 4:24 pm

hey guys,

quick question, went to a local veggie supermarket(spud shed) about 2 and abit weeks ago.

Purchased about $120 worth of stuff, but their eftpos was down. They did the old swipe of the card on the carbon paper machine thing in two transactions because the limit with these manual machines in apparantly $75.

Now the money for this hasnt exitted my account....free groceries???

does it take a while for these thing sto go thru? I spose it would depend on when/if the supermarket lodged the carbon paper things.

the cashier probably lost the carbons (you can hope) otherwise someone went WTF is this and turfed it.

The money should have been sucked from your account within the week.

OR as you say they may not have ventured out into the sun with them

semi concerning, they have a print of my card and the verification numbers on the back of the card.

this is all thats needed to buy stuff over the net. I dont really want this kind of info being 'lost'

Go back, buy the same amount of shit again ( at the same price) and when they catch up with you say " Hey you double charged me" , hang up the phone and say quietly " thanks for the free shit" lol

In my experience with this type of situation it took longer than two weeks for the money to 'leave' my account so I do not think one week is long enough.

So much time had passed that when the charge was finally debited I had completely forgotten about the transaction. Only realised something was amiss when a different payment failed due to lack of funds!

Credit card or savings/chq, if was the latter, don't think it will process. You may need to fix them up for the $120 or shop elsewhere in future

We use them up at hotham for credit card imprints to cover the bond requirements - they're only ever fully processed if we need to claim money for a trashed room. AFAIK we've not had to act on any of the imprints this season in our hotel.

Most places will have these old machines as a back up when the EFTPOS is down.

Cheers

It can take quite a few weeks to process that transaction. about 2/3 weeks because the owner has to go thru the teller at the bank.

I wouldn't worry about it, just let it ride, it's not like they wanted to use the carbon machine but every business should carry one in case the eftpos goes down, maybe they are just slack doing the banking but seriously doubt they would compromise themselves, remember that's all we had a few years ago and if they did catch up all you'd need to say is you never check the statements.............New card is an absolute pain especially if you have regular withdrawals, I went through 2 cards in 2 weeks & trying to fix things when overseas was horrid, thank god for Skype.

yeah.. I don't think the issue is with the company. I think that it's because if the company did lose that carbon copy, it could fall into the wrong hands. I'd rather be save than sorry :???:

BTW Alex.. what are you worried about.. don't you think your spare million in the bank is safe

Bank will cover you anyhow if they know it's not you and you have pretty strong idea where it came from if there were dodgy withdrawals.
