Internet scammers scouring details form forums

This thread prompted a Q that has been on my mind.

Scammers trolling for contact details and information from forums such as this one - is there any protection by changing the syntax of mobiles and emails?

For example for emails, I've seen '[email protected] written as 'sven_123 AT internode.on.org'

Mobile similar - zero four three nine... or zero43 9...

Do there sorts of measures really work? Is this even an issue? Anyone experience this firsthand?
