so, after months and months of crap my sisters gen1 lib is finally running normal again after having a pain in the arse missfire.

her boyfriends brother is a mechanic and checked all the vital things such as leads, plugs etc etc

i then took over and dove deaper into the problem, changing sensors, cleaning sensors, fuel pumps bla bla bla.

at wits end with it we called in a subaru specialist who fixed it in about 10mins. One of the leads had a small burn hole in the bit that goes into the head. Apparantly my sisters boyfriends brother 'mechanic' checked over the leads and even tested them on another subaru.

So i wasted about two days of my holidays which i could have been spending with my daughter or working on my liberty with something that was such a small issue. So angry at the apperant 'mechanic' who was meant to know his shit (according to him)

pissed off to the max, costing my sister afew hunderd dollars in the process.

bloody mechanics, i swear i know more than 90% of them and ive only ever learnt about motors and cars thru breaking and modifying them like 90% of the people on this forum.

Know that feeling well Alex.

Many years ago I worked for 2 "mechanics" and while I learnt a great deal of mechanical knowledge from them, I learned a very important lesson. Get a second opinion on all mechanical work needed and even a third one.

Look at it this way as well it will be a long time before a lot of those parts you replaced will need replacing again

yeh youre right. At least the car will be nice and reliable for her when she has to do a very long drive from Kalamunda to her new job as a graduate chemical engineer at the alcoa refinery in Wagerup!

My mate Lanos broken down, RCA quoted him $750 to replace a master and slave clutch cylinders that only cost $65 for both from veale!!! he paid me $40 labour:)

And bought me a $645 present...., I wish!!!

$750 dollars would be what the whole lanos is worth

between $100 and $110 dollars in labour these days

the guy that just did my sisters car spent about 1/2 an hour on it, drove from Atwell to Kalamunda to come out and see the car, charged $150..pretty fair for home service i reckon.

for a call out that is very reasonable, especially as he fixed it as well

and I did mean to say 100 to 110 dollars and hour for labour.

if you,d done your cert 4 you,d know why mechanics are useless

I can beat all of you:rolleyes:
I bought a gt forester for my son very cheap advertised price $7500 2 years ago the guy said there was a steering rack problem his mechanic said $1500 for a replacement one.
Straight away i said to my self yeh right. Took it for a drive power steer wasn't good.
Took it back said it wasn't steering to well so he said i will take the quoted price off the total i got a gt forester for $6000:D
Took it home had a look around found the power steering pump belt was loose and needed some p/s fluid cost me $20:mrgreen:

Bought a std brumby that didn't want to start owner said he spend big $$ trying to fix it and couldn't figure why the car didn't get power. It had a set of 14's, a set of 13's a nice bullbar, rollbar and was very clean and no rust and licensed. After inspection and seeing the problem, We signed all the papers, took the key and paid $400 for it. Ask the owner where the closest auto shop was, went a bought the $3 part, got back, replaced the blown fuse-able link and both drove home:)

OHHHH and Julian's favorite story, I bought a $500 non starting ej18 impreza 30 minutes before julian, MWAAHAHAHAHAHAHA......, Got it home and replace the ignitor module from a spare that i had and car has been my mates daily since:)

btw Jules, its a good thing you missed out. You now have jet car:p
