40+40x0+1 = ?

been arguing with some people on facebook for days about the answer.

what do you reckon?

where are the ( ) to define the sum?

(40+40) x 0 +1 =

40+40 x (0 +1) =

(40+40) x (0 +1) =

40+ (40 x 0) +1 =

Four different ways for the same sum / equation work that out first.

as a rule stalkbook sucks :)

there are no brackets intentionally Jules..otherwise itd be too obvious

Yeah its 1. Or if you use BEDMAS then its 41. Mmmmmm
I will ask my maths teacher when i next have maths whether we should use BEDMAS or not. BTW BEDMAS

its 41. multipication before addition when brackets are not present so ends up being

40 + (40 x 0) + 1

which = 41

40+40x0+1 = ?, i've done a few years of calculus study and the obvious methodology would be to follow bimdas yielding a solution of 41, in saying that i've watched math lectures prove 1+1 = 0 so there is some chance of some dude coming up with a logic based solution giving a different solution, i doubt it but it's plausible

I have proof that 1+1=0

1+1=1+√1=1+√(-1)(-1) != 1+√(-1)*√(-1)=1+i*i=1+(-1)=0

reading about it made my eyes bleed and summoned El Chupacabras.

hehe, you guys help me with the car and i will help you with the maths :p

it is 41.
multiplication takes priority over addition (at least thats the best way i can think to explain it, and for simple stuff like that you can base it off bimdas) unless the brackets indicate otherwise.

any off you guys have a scientific or graphics calculator (actually your computer will have one too)? type it into that as it is written and it will tell you ;)

nice toonga, but for 1+√(-1)(-1) != 1+√(-1)*√(-1) LHS does not equal RHS. my calc teacher in yr 12 had a whole heap like this he used to make us find the fualts in.
