I'm after a spray on sound deadener that's similar to what you find under cars floor pans.

I want to spray under Ruby Scoo and also do the interior floor while I've got everything out. I've tried one brand that came in a spray can that's the same size as a regular spray paint can but it did't go very far and it didn't come up as I expected. I reckon if I continue with this source I'd need another 20 cans for it to actually be of any benefit.

If anyone knows of a product that will do the job in one or two applications I'm keen to know about it. At this point I'd even take to using a brush if I had to - I just want it to be thick and look like it's going to stop some noise.

Think you also need to prep with wax and grease and dust and mud remover first otherwise the stuff drops off in bits - how I dunno as it sticks to more than you want at other times !

It is available in a spray as well. The gun is pretty exprnsive ($60?)
Then the paint is a bit cheaper, in special cans.
Always best to prep with W&G remover, probebly not necessary.
I bought the brush on for about $50, Way too hard to get a nice even coat.
It wrecks your brushes, and is a pain to get good.
But under the floor pan it was allright, I'm going to try the spray for the outside.

Personally I would use the spray on 'Under Body Spray' (obviously for exterior) available from most auto parts stores and for the interior, I'd use this stuff.. all the boys in the hotrod club highly recommend it

It's what I'll be using in my hatch.. as it offers great thermal and noise protection.

Sweet. I'll give the brush on stuff a go, good timing on the info fellas, I'll get a tin and give it a go. Glad to know all the hot rod guys use it Paul.

I've used one can of sound deadener, I think it's the same brand but it didn't go very far and didn't do what I thought it was going to do, I figured that I'd need about 20 cans to do what I want it to do, which is look like the thick stuff like the underside of the floor pan - rather it's just a very thin rough feeling layer of this stuff. I used one can to do the front and rear footwells.

I'll let you know how it goes later in the week when I get to use this stuff

Well I got a small sized tin today ($15 worth) and used that very quickly! With that said I did lather it on thick against the fire wall. It's going to do the job that I wanted. Dunno if it'll do the job on the under body, I might have to use a spray gun for that. Just put a bid on a fleabay special

I'm looking forward to having the rest of the interior areas painted in this stuff as this is the only reason why I don't have the interior going back in.

And a stiff brush would be heaps easier than your regular painting brush - I forgot about this when I purchased my brush for the job...
