Earthquake in VIC Whoo Hoo!!

Post by El_Freddo » Tue Jun 19, 2012 9:12 pm

G'day all,

Well, at about 8:58pm EST I felt an earthquake, can't keep up with it on facebook. I've read on facebook it was 5.2 magnitude (by the website below).

So far I've heard from mates in Eildon, Lakes Entrance, Melbourne, Wangarratta that have also felt it. Crazy stuff!

Keen to hear more about it in the media. I wonder what's going on with the earth at the moment - plenty of action going on, volcanoes last year (or year before), earthquakes in NZ and a couple of small ones in melbourne SE suburbs as recent as the last two years or so...

Cheers

Seems the whole South Eastern side of Oz has felt it.

So far I've heard as far north as parts of southern NSW and as far west as Adelaide.

Very interesting to experience, especially since it wasn't devastating in the way it was for Christchurch that is probably still feeling tremors regularly.

Cheers

Yeah earthquakes are a strange feeling alright :? We had one last year or year before and I thought it was thunder, but it lasted too long, then it got louder and closer like a train coming, then the ground was vibrating and the house creaked, then it was over

I didn't feel yours Bennie, someone in Adelaide must be sensitive :o
Will it ever end!?

Victoria trying to break away and form another island state :D ?

A mate was under a car pulling an auto box out when Newcastle copped it many years ago. Cortina was on stands and he thought something was going to go horribly wrong for him ...it didn't :)

I hope not! I enjoy being able to drive interstate. I love Tassie but that extra cost of taking the ferry to get the car over is a deal breaker for me!

I certainly felt the earthquake it in 1989 in Newcastle (NSW) with the only positive being my girlfriend (wife now for the last 20 + years) had just filled up and payed for the Petrol in the 308V8 1977 LX Torana when it hit. The awning on the petrol station swayed like a palm tree. Time to soil the dacks.
Anyone who Googles this event will see the devistation it caused. I saw an interesting news post in an on line paper today saying it depends a bit on the poplulation in the area the quake hits to know the damage it may cause. Makes sense I guess.
Hope everyone is OK
