Does your spare tyre really fit?

I ask coz it's happened again. A mate has gone to fit a spare for a customer to find the brand new rim and tyre found in the boot of her :) Toyota only a coupla years old , and bugger me, the rim goes on and leaves only 5mm of studs. Turns out the spares centre is too small for the hub ! The car has been through the used car yard life, where it must have been found to be missing a spare, another sourced, that sorta fits !! Second one in recent months to be found like this. I used to have a spare fattie on rim. Few years later when I go to fit it, find it was Holden stud pattern. SPIT ! Lucky I was at home !

I think most of us on the forum have 5 matching rims, I certainly know that I do in all of our vehicles.

Also another good reason why you should know how to change a tyre by doing a dummy swap for training purposes ;) You'd be surprised how many people don't know how to change a tyre these days!

Cheers

I have had to use my spare(s) way too often for this to catch me out. But to have seen it with other peoples cars. That, or no jack. Or no wheel brace. Or there is a wheel brace but it is the wrong size for the wheel nuts.

Was caught out myself once when I got a flat on a trailer. Had a spare, but the trailer wheel nuts were smaller then the car...
