Have now had the MY passed for rego for its 30th year and thought I would ask my car insurer (NRMA) if there were any options for cheaper insurance due to its age.
Have a look at this extract from the NRMA web site.

Basicall, if your car is over 15 years old, its NOT your main mode of transport, and you are only going to do 900ks a year Classic insurance is the way to go and my comprehensive insurance went from about $175.00 to something like $115.00.
All this suited me and it may suit others.

I can understand those keeping the odometre reading low for a vehicle that's going to appreciate in value but a true recreational vehicle where you're going to actually use it it doesn't seem viable to me. If you do end up in a prang/making a claim the insurance company will be closely scrutinising the km usage!
Not for everyone, but I understand it will suit others who may have showroom quality cars, I for one am not one of these people

The 900 a year suits me and you are right it is not much for a true req vehicle.
This figure is not mentioned in the literature but I was certainly asked over the phone if I would exceed this when I was setting the insurance up. If anyone goes this path maybe they could ask and let us know why 900 and not more.

i have one car on full comp but laid up (restoration insurance), my latest on full comp and the brumby is only 3rd party. after the ej25 conversion its getting redone for 10k full comp minimum. coincidentally i just got my latest insurance today and no dramas even up to 15k full comp on a brumby so long as you have receipts and its legit.
however, i dont know what the premium will be lol...
