Isnt that what workshop floors are for lol ;)

I just hope they made the floor nice & flat haha :p

One place I worked at had a HUGE flat jig (like a big steel table but with threads tapped into it)) for fabbing chassis. Must've been bout 6'x15' & weighed a few ton!

I'm wondering if his wheel carrier bumper will end up on this instead of the "L" :)

Looking good and he has spare floor paint :)

Regard.. I give this paint the highest respect.. it is perfect and there is no damage to it. I highly recommend this flooring coating to anyone.

Yes it is and yep, perfectly flat

If I was doing this as a full time job, I would build a proper jig but for one offs, it's not really worth it.

Why would I keep the cars spare wheels on the trailer
TOONGA wrote:Looking good and he has spare floor paint
Not required

As promised.. but (sorry to use this word 'but') today I need to go hunting for material to cover the frame, as I probably wouldn't find to many places open over the next few days, I needed to hurry :(

I found a great salvage yard closeby and managed to find some stuff (pics to follow) and even found myself a good secondhand AC/DC Mig.. woohoo :D

After a getting a great deal on some steel and the mig, I thought I'd buy them some Christmas beer.. Then as I return, they offered me to stay and have Christmas drinks and a BBQ.. I couldn't say no to the offer

So today's update is nothing more than a dulux recon on the trailer.

Well after a HUGE day yesterday, I thought I better get back into this trailer or we won't be taking it away with us. So today's effort was to build the slide out drawer.

Hopefully tomorrow, I can cover it in and put the hinge and locks on ;)

Today's effort saw the fitting of runners for the drawer and cover the drawer but I found I'd made a small indiscretion on my measuring, so as I had a little visit from Jules (TOONGA), I thought this was a good opportunity to show him and introduce him to my new friends at the salvage yard and get them to fix up my measure once, cut twice method.

We also started t cover the whole frame, so more pics tomoz.. hopefully the final product... crossing fingers, toes, and anything else that might help ;)

Today's effort was interupted with my 10 y.o. screaming that one of her back teeth was hurting when she ate or drank, so off to the Dentist to find out WTF is going on. Turns out one of her back chompers was cracked in half.. poor chicken :(

So after getting that sorted, I had another brainfart and need to get some of the covering cut, so back to the salvage yard.. I think I'm going to need to buy a house closer to it :D

Today's effort was to cover the frame and get on the trailer.. 1/2 a job done

Top effort Paul - it's very shiny, better watch out for Alex :p

How heavy is this all up? I'm guessing you've used light gauge material to keep the weight down?

I wish my projects moved along at this pace! Looking forward to some finished pics.

Also, probably a good idea to run a bead of silicone (of your choice) along all the seams to seal out water - and DUST! Will there be rubber strips on the lid and draw to help seal as well?

Cheers

Thanks and wait till I have it behind the L Offroader.. then he'll sell that VW

The box is unknown at this stage but I will get it weighed at the local tip. The tent weighs 80kg so I'm thinking it will be around the 150kg total. I tried to make it strong as well as light, so it's 25x25x1.5 RHS and 2mm aluminium checker plate. If I was making it for just on road, I would use 25x25 angle and 1mm aluminium plate.
El_Freddo wrote:I wish my projects moved along at this pace! Looking forward to some finished pics.
This is the only project to go this quickly.. was due to leaving tomorrow with the fam to Kalbarri.. or we'd be all sleeping in the RV3 (30sec) tent.

We ran black mastic between the frame and the covering sheets and after this trip (on road only) it will get the single sided adhesive foam strips on the lid and drawer. Would have got it now but time got away from us :(
