Bennie, I trust that wire brush is a Brumby brand ! And, Gregs little pressure pump can also push a gasket beyond what it was after a little boost to 20psi in the cooling system :D rendering a test victim from driveable to er, no longer driveable. Sort of ensures the owner does not get to drive off for a second opinion or quote :D :D

Nothing really custom here. My workbenches will be that when that eventually comes.

Scored some new tools for the birthday. :D

Image

A dozen new hunting arrows and a full set from 8mm-22mm and 1/2"-1" Gearwrench spanners!

Almost keen for something to need fixing now... Almost.

A face value review of the Gearwrenches so far (unused, but fresh out of the box and handled some):
- Have an identical warranty to Sidchromes (lifetime replacement).
- Half the price of Sid's.
- Look and feel quality and feel "correct" in hand.
- Nice finish, good ring to them.
- They are well presented in a perfectly made, tight but easy to use thermo-formed plastic case to suit a drawer.
- Seem to be asking to be used!

I like how they were a gift and you know how much they are - or did you google them to find out ? :D

All you need now is a 7mm gear wrench for those odd hose clamps that are not 8mm, not 6mm, not 1/4" .....

MMMMMM... gearwrench...MMMMMM originator of the racheting wrench.

I can tell you that in America a set of these wrenches sized from 8mm-19mm are around 50 dollars. (Sears) yet in Australia ... well I haven't bothered to price them :( but half the price of Sidchrome would still be more than 50 dollars. a link for a 20 piece set http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00935720000P

As for how well they work I can take a 10mm and a 12mm in my pocket to the wreckers,
and 9 times out of 10 I will not need to go back to the car for my 3/8th drive ratchet and sockets.

Recently I lost all access to spanners so I needed a full new set.

I love my ratcheting wrenches - they're perfect for so many jobs when done right.

However these Gearwrenches don't ratchet, I got these as fixed-rings because they can take more "unff" and every single thing I seem to try open/undo or move in Brumby seems to need a bit of labour.

Next Birthday was planned to get the geared ones, but maybe not since Sears is so freaking cheap!! Will be the geared ones or the stubbed-geared ones (I love using these at work)

Hehe, Well, Sister said, what can I get you for a birthday Prezzie so I said spanners, her face went totally blank so I found a set I liked then gave her a print-out of what they were, what isle they were on etc... :p

They were bought from DTS (Pretty good deals usually) in Kenwick... on Kenwick road if anyone's interested.

I used to have a 4mm, 5mm, 6mm, and 7mm with the old set at the old house, but alas, they're gone. I will be poking my head into every cashies looking through their spanner drawers for the next few weeks to get a $1 bargain. :P

Or maybe not if I can check out this Sears.com website...

Also, every time I looked at a Sid's set, they were about $400ish to $Howmuchofyoursoulwouldyouliketotradesir?
Where as Gearwrenches were less than $200 and came with a nice drawer-box rather than a roll. (Don't like rolls. ;))

After many years of avoiding having to do this, I had to make a tool to get the rear wheel bearings out of my L series.
Always just used to swap the suspension arm, for some reason all my rear wheel bearing failures have been drivers side. Have a few LHS arms left, I needed to get the bearing out of.
After looking at some tools shown before this, I made another type of the tool.
This one fits tightly on the axle spline, which holds it in place and keeps it aligned while its turned. Small and easy to pack.
It is made out of three pieces of flat steel and a driveshaft nut. Very simple and easy to use with either my drive shaft nut socket/tool, or like I did, rattle gun.

a link http://www.subaruxt.com/forum/viewtopic ... a&start=30 to a very clever way of removing the gudgeon pins of our EA81, EA82 and ER27.

I'm not sure how well the softish cup head bolts we get here would do the job. It is interesting to see just how alike my hand made remover tip looks to this one :)

When I had the front calipers coated, I took the opportunity to get a few other things done in blaze blue.

And Im loving these Speedflow vice jaws. Good for more than just assembling AN series fittings!
And here is how I correctly torque the axle/hub nuts!
