I am trying to amend the postage cost on a sold item I sold on ebay

when I enter the postage amount in the blue as I click on current inflated postage price, it takes it, then click on recalculate, it turfs it out and returns to orginal price.

Just read someone said not to click on recalculate but to review or simply click send.

WTF does recalculate mean in ebay then ?

I tried adding another charge, comes up with remove option, but never the main postal charge, won't take it as recalculate either !! blanks its value. FFS !

Must go back, try again, click preview and not recalculate an see what happens

Sorted :(

Stupid effing anti- cyborg set-up or what. A bloody cryptic message woulda done :)

So, what do others do when listing stuff on ebay when it comes to postage ??

I have been confused as to why a lot of stuff is pick up only - reduces market region surely ?

Then, see others have written up post at buyers expense.

I listed up first thing on ebay and sold it at the reserve price, not the buy it now price. Next time will try higher price, and relist it to save from snipers like myself :)

Ebay seems to insist on a postal price fixed, so I maxxed it out to send across Oz, ended up selling into Victoria at less than half max postage, rather than lose out sending to NT or WA for lesser amount. Buyer asked for an amended postal charge to reflect what I quoted them in a question.

So, smart thing is just to state local pick up only to sort ebays dumb thing, and quickly state willing to post at buyers expense at however convenient it is sent ?

I have skipped many things coz say local pick up - saved self heaps :)

Hey, I sold first item, first go. Retail value about 160 bucks, I set buy it now at 80, sold for fifty less paypal fees.

Now, more shizz about the place ..... ???

Have you tried using the print shipping label function? Pretty awesome. When you use it, you can modify the postage costs, weight of package, dimensions ect. It will then print the correct label and the postage cost is charged to your monthly ebay invoice. You can print the label on the office works style label paper and whack it onto the package. Just drop it of at the post office, make sure they scan it and that's it, no money exchanged.

If its actual freight as in toll, e-go, ect well the above will not help you one bit!

Interesting to know that Justin.

Might give ebay and paypal a miss for a while, gather more shizz and have another go.
That PO technique is a bit too convenient, sci fi and something else to keep an eye on

Thanks for suggesting it though :)

Remember that eBay are now (as of 6th May) charging FVF's on item AND postage. So if you sell interstate your fees are higher b/c your postage is higher.

So a lot of sellers are now offering only pick-up (or buyer arranges cartage through pack'n'send or similar).

if you sell a item for $2, and your postage is $7.20, with Paypal fees you will receive about $1.11 of that $2 after eBay takes it cut. If your item is heavy/bulky and costs say $30, but the sell price was $2 (hey, it could happen if you were selling clothing or something), you will end up losing money.

Its a wonderful black box.
Carefully read and understand the fine print.
Advertise it with no postage, then respond to requests.
Ask them to send a full price request, add you postage and it should magically add up to what you specified.
Good luck.

Yeah ebay postage is a PITA when listing items.

I have sold a few things on ebay but they never go for anywhere near what I think they are worth (a $2000 dive computer with just 10 dives on it sold for $150 !!) and ebay fees are astronomical. So I have a new rule :

Buy on eBAy
Sell on forums

Well, if payment comes through, there will be one less pile a sheeut to jump over in the shed, so I should b happy, paypal and bay will be happy, so will the buyer. Harking back to the days of running an ad in the paper, wait at home all day Saturday, to get calls or not ..... Will study ebay again one day, and will be user/buyer pays I think, or will just keep tripping over stuff :)

Any more tips are welcome ...

When setting up your listing there is a function where you enter the size and weight of the item and then choose 'auto postage calc according to buyers location'. It does it for you and gets the postage right. If you want to add some $ for packaging there's a box to add how much.

As mentioned above the new eBay Final Value Fees including postage are a complete ripoff and you can easilly lose money esp if you post O/seas. This is a scam they've introduced around the world but AussiePost charges are higher than most. Lots of pissed off people waiting for a viable alternative.

In eBay's defence, it was introduced to stop sellers (especially in HK) who would list something like a $50 hard drive for $1, and then $52 for postage. eBay identified they were being jibbed on FVF's, and their solution was to bundle postage so these guys couldn't avoid the FVF's.

Australia was one of the last places in the world to get this bundling, it's been in place in the US for a while now and it means MORE US sellers WON'T ship o/s anymore. eBay's solution - have a third party act as the shipping agent (and eBay gets a cut of course)...

I think the fairer solution would have been to set the FVF's on postage above say $10 - this way the person who sold a $2 item isn't paying a minimum of $2+7.20=$9.20*10% = 92c in fees.

then I suppose there is the ads for items that may never actually sell ...like the wrecker that advertises wheel nuts, but wrecking whole car, or many of them. Also states that phone and counter customers get priority and emails are very slow.

Readers are also warned if you hit buy it now with free postage you will be buying one wheel nut $ 5 posted.

Great graphics I suppose you'd call them or uploaded some artwork to go with the ad - all for a wheel nut :)

Sick of Ebay, there are many other sites with less charges, but less views.

You get scr-wed harder by the system that works the best.

Get what you pay for, in most cases.
