MY/Brumby sports steering wheel and boss

I would like to replace the original MY touring wagon steering wheel with a sports wheel and boss.
Anyone had any experiences with good or bad wheels/boss's re quality, issues etc ?
Looking for a reasonable diameter of wheel, about 14". Don't want a real small wheel which is why I want the 14" one. It will still look close to the original wheel without attracting attention of the boys in blue.
The original wheel is about 15" or so.
I am guessing the boss is the hardest to source ?

order basis usually from suppliers , the AutotechnicA boss I got was not correct fit for Brumby. I needed to remove material from somewhere. Complaints to supplier company revealed it was to suit MY with collapsible or maybe adjustable MY, and I reckon from experience someone must have known it was not a direct firt for Brumby and non collapse or adjustable columns.Search in here and you'll find positive comment for the SAAS boss for MY

G'day, as has been said above, the Saas boss kit is good. I got one off EBay & used an old Autotecnica wheel I already had.

I think SAAS have been around for ever and they have a good name.
Good info on the steering column. Mine is certainly adjustable.
I don't think it is collapsible though not sure.
I think of collapsible as the outer case of the column is made of a web/hatch sort of material. I don't think mine has this.
So do SAAS boss's fit other brands of wheels ?

A SAAS boss is drilled for both of the typical 6 hole steering wheels. For example you can use a Momo or a Nardi. Almost all 6 bolt steering wheels have one bolt pattern or the other.

Is anyone able to measure the Pitch Circle Diameter (PCD) of the SAAS boss.
This is the dimension from one of the (6) hole centres to the opposite hole centre if an imaginary line was to be drawn from the centre of the first hole, through the (imaginary) centre of the boss to the centre of the 2nd hole.
I would be happier if I knew this dimension so I could ensure I was buying the right boss and wheel.

Just wondering if anyone had any more info on a boos kit (not autotechnica) for the MY Touring wagon steering column with tilt adjustable column.
I was looking on ebay for the SAAS P/N BK121L but the reply back when I asked if it would fit was, it wouldn't fit.
I want a SAAS or a Momo boss and wheel kit.

OK, now I am being told by the SAAS Research and Development Manager the BK121L will fit.
I sent a pile of photos of the standard steering wheel, dash, steering column etc and in the Managers words "Thanks for the images the boss kit you require is BK121L, Please note I have checked everything and this from what I can see should fit"
Hmm......
Would like to get a hold of one without buying it but I may have to take the plunge.
ebay for about $75 including freight.

The SAAS BK121L I ordered from an ebay supplier arrived today.
I can now say, for my 1982 MY Touring wagon with the tilt adjustable steering column the SAAS BK121L boss fits.
I will worry about an actual wheel shortly (I am currently selling some more stuff on ebay to get some spending cash) but the boss fits perfectly and everything appears to line up.
Hopefully this is info others with MY Touring wagons can use.
Thanks again to the SASS Research and Development team for making the call that the boss would fit as other suppliers wouldn't commit.

Can I just confirm, in peoples experiences does the Autotecnica 6 bolt wheel fit the SAAS boss ?
What is with the prices (mainly off ebay) of sports wheels.
350mm (common size, just under 14") is well under $100 new and all sorts of cheap prices 2nd hand.
Go up to 365mm and 380mm (15") and there isn't anything under $150 that is any good.
I am happy to stick to the original sized wheel (about 15") but finding one isn't easy.
Wouldn't mind wood grain but again pricy and would probably scratch easily.

Forgot to mention, this wheel fits most of my criteria for what I wanted.
1. at 360mm diameter, the wheel fits within the legal requirements of being no smaller that 25mm of the original wheel diameter (believe this is a requirement) The original wheel is approx. 385mm (or very close to it).
2. The wheel is padded as legislation states if the original wheel is padded the replacement wheel must also be padded.
3. 70mm PDC x 6 bolt fitment to the SAAS boss.
The other aim was to find a wheel that was ADR approved but as this is a MOMO knock off it wouldn't meet this need.

I was just happy to find a 360mm diameter wheel that was padded.
Just grabbed it as soon as I saw it.

Been busy so haven't caught up on the Forum for weeks.
I have though been able to drive the MY wagon a fair bit of late as the Suzuki Grand Vitara has been off the road with a dodgy rear wheel bearing.
All this driving of the MY has produced some unfortunate results though.
What I mean is, I don't like the new steering wheel.
I have several issues with it-
1. It is flat, ie, it isn't concave like the original wheel so it sits out of line to where I like to sit and my arms are stretched out all the time.
2. Big issues with the seeing the Touring wagons full instrument panels gauges. I have to tilt the steering column right up to its highest level otherwise the gauges are blocked off.
All this make the car less than nice to drive at times.
I am going back to the original wheel till I come up with something better.
Anyone looking to fit the Touring wagon instrument cluster and who has a sports wheel may want to consider this otherwise you may be unhappy with either the dash or the steering wheel.

Your right - the one you have is a lot smaller than original ...
This is what I have in the '82 Touring Wagon :
I like this style, as it looks much better than the later ones ...
Note : I've added a leather ring ( this one is stitched in ) - also got something similar lined up for the Brumby ...

Agree with Bantam that that is the best OEM. I too have one lined up for my Brumby and will also use a stich on leather cover.
Never liked small steering wheels on early Subarus as it tends to obscure the instruments. If you can find an aftermarket wheel larger than 375mm or 15 inches it is better than the more regular 14 inch or less sizes.
