Aus Post gripes

Post by steptoe » Mon Jun 16, 2014 11:24 pm

feel free to vent in here

It is understandable due to the huge volume of mail, from letters, bills, packages and parcels that AP carry, somethings gotta go wrong somewhere.

Well, tracking has been introduced on all parcels within Australia at least. For the added security, you can still opt for a higher level of service and pay 2.95 for SoD (signature on delivery) which is quite clear on their website what it is, how it works etc.

I like to use it a bit like their old registered post as it may have been slower, yet went through more checks and ensured the recipient signed for the item. It also keeps things above board just in case things go awry and recipient may suspect sender playing foul - you have a number besides tracking to play with.

Well Jules and I did a swap, and to keep things as secure as possible, agreed swap would include SoD via AP.

Well, Jules & Co came home to find his hens tooth was just stashed behind a brick wall, and maybe a bit miffed that Jonno took the cheaper delivery option, asked ain't he supposed to sign for it on delivery ?

Well, certainly was paid for SoD, and had similar situations at my door where I'd asked and paid for SoD type delivery yet found parcel forged my sig !

Starting to get a bit peeved at this service delivery not being what it claims, made a complaint to AP, who claim they have a 2 day turn around on complaints. Two working days...well, ten days later I hear back, still not happy with outcome - the recipient has to lodge delivery complaint - even though the sender paid for the service, got the reciept, is the customer !!

Well, Jules did his bit and complained formally - to be told if he wanted a refund, the sender had to make the claim - which is where I started in the first place - asking how to get a refund for service not delivered.

The delivery contractor could not recall if his unusal practice of signing on behalf of the recipient took place at Casa TOONGA, as it was over a month ago !! Yeah, well, if the 2 day turnaround complaints centre wasn't so backed up .......

I've now copied WA AP reply to EA AP to ask first question - how do I get the refund !!

Ready to try the pio.gov.au ombudsman :) all over shortcut taken...

Gogle AP complaints and results seemed WA heavy .....

just got this at 11.25 pm or so, is it that late ? :-)

"Thank you for contacting us via email. We are presently experiencing unusually high demand for online support which is affecting our normal response times. We apologise for this inconvenience and will be in contact with a response to your enquiry as soon as possible".

WOW, UPDATE !! Speedy response this time :) Looks like not only the SoD fee is to be refunded, the whole postage cost looks like it is making its way back to me What a work out that was !! I can only encourage others to follow up a gripe.

Pretty good so far, 43 views and no added gripes.

Jules and I have agreed the refund goes to a charity for kids - Camp :) http://www.campquality.org.au/donate if we can find an easy to donate method BSB and account number should be the shot

Gripes about Australia Post ? We could be here all week...

#1 They complain about losing money on letters (although overall they are making money in a big way, see point #2), so their solution is to (a) INCREASE the base letter domestic rate, and (b) DECREASE the frequency (from daily to twice a week, even though it's legislated to be DAILY). So, pay more for a worse service.

#2 Small parcels domestic. Used to be about $5 for a 250g small parcel anywhere in AU, goes up to $7.20 for up to 500g anywhere in AU. Fine if you have a 251g+ parcel, but what about those who want to send something small/fragile and can't send in a letter. I can get a <500g parcel from HK for less than $7.20, and that's a lot further than the northern most point of AU.

There's a big business opportunity for UPS or similar to come out here and kill Australia Post dead. Just take care of all the online sales stuff and leave AP with the letters. If AAE (Australian Air Express) hadn't come along when it did , this option would have already been taken but with Qantas and Australia Post colluding together it's hard for anyone else to get into the action.

Not sure which side of AP bought ...was it Star Track ? Whatever company it bought, shares logos about the web etc. That under 500g parcel for 7.20 probably included the item you bought as well!

  • You're lucky they hide yours. Ours are left on our elevated front door step in full view of the street.
  • Our residential letter delivery seems to be weekly now in Canberra. But my workplace (Govt. dept.) doesn't seem to have this issue, but they do what I call a "dump 'n' run" in the afternoon if no-one's there to sign for parcels.
  • Things come quicker and far, far cheaper from the U.K. than they do inside Oz. Try £1.50 for a small item across the world in 5 (or so) working days.

those cheap OS mailouts might be causing aus post to lose, they are carrying it and delivering it, not much cream in the ostage fee for them I bet !

I just sent an ea flywheel for some ej mods to perth. Australia post wanted $51.00 to have the privilege of delivering it for me. I then checked with Hunters transport via e-go and being a platinum account holder, getting it delivered for a grand total of $7.21. Delivery time is estimated to be 4-5 days both methods....

I tend to think of AP for everything within their abilities, inside size constraints. Outside has gone e-go and brain tends to think like that. Need to review how brain thinks :)

AP could well do with a swap, let the happy counter staff swap with the surly delivery drivers /contractors for a few weeks so each side sees a new perspective.

Happy counter staff told me today that the practice of using DO NOT SAFE DROP stickers is no longer. And no longer can they just safe drop, leave a parcel , SoD or not without contact with addressee.
