Sh**box rally

Post by Cliff R » Sat May 09, 2015 9:01 am

I see with interest that the 2015 Sh**box rally is going to be underway soon.
There was a story on Sunrise today.
As with all car rallies of this type they are an excellent cause that is very worth backing.
I am intrigued in what photos I saw there were no Subaru's involved.
Now, I am in no way insinuating Subaru's are Sh**boxes but with a max budget of $1000 I would have thought a Subaru was a logical option.
Wouldn't need to spend much, general service on everything and the same on the CV's and their boots and off you go.
No sure but maybe there is some rule on not being able to have a car with 4WD (all wheel drive etc).
I know the point is not to win as such but the journey but I would want to ensure I at least get to the destination. I am not sure how may of the entries will be able to do this.
Good luck to anyone involved and I hope you raise heaps of cash.

The reputable high resale value of our breed is what is keeping them out of contest!

The pictures on the site don't show everything :)

There was 2 L series in last years event I think (some onboard footage on youtube) and I'm pretty sure there was an MY wagon last year as they had daily(?) reports on the race on the J's and I heard them talking about an early 80's Subaru wagon having blown a front CV.

This event is one of the things on my to do list (bucket list?) in an MY of some sort. Getting a group together and getting a car to the start line is the hard part especially if it's not in your state. One day though :)
Will it ever end!?
-EA81 TWIN CARB!!!!
-L series 5 speed
-Custom paint job
-2" lift
-Full custom re-wire
-L series front end

I do like some of the cars people are intending to take on this trip.
Some look like they wont get to the end of the street let alone on a rally.
Go everyone and well done going up for the challenge.
Hope you raise lots of funds.

I've seen a pic of a gen1 lib wagon. The pic was posted on the RS liberty club Facebook page as it had a rear wing on it that "needed to be saved".

Cheers

My wife and I want to do it, maybe next year. Problem with choosing a Subaru is it takes the fun out of breaking down.

Could always go with a Subi as a support vehicle ?

Not really interested in competing as mine certainly isn't a shitbox but I would be interested in meeting up with other passionate Brumby owners in NSW, maybe a small rally type of thing.

You wouldn't use your own car as they are all auctioned off at the end for charity. The idea is to go buy a bomb and limp it to the end.
