Any of you guys used the Autodesk Inventor program?
If so, how does it compare to Autocad?

Also, is it a big program - 3.0+G?

Heaps better than autocad for 3D work, not as good for 2D, so depends on what your drafting. There is a torrent for version 11 at 3gb atm

If your doing 3D then use Pro engineer, there is a torrent of ProE Wildfire v2.0 (1.6gb last years version) that is pretty strong at the moment, harder to get used to but HEAPS more powerful.

That reminds me - I need to re-learn cad!

On that last note, does Pro engineer have similar commands to Autocad. ie would it be easy to get a handle on if I know autocad.

Also, why would I use Inventor or Pro engineer over Autocad? I know nothing about either really and have used Autocad for the last 10 yrs on and off in the construction industry.

Where do I find ProE Wildfire v2.0 by the by

I used torrents, You can use http://www.bitlord.com which has an inbuilt search or go the long way to http://www.torrentspy.com or similar, you can search for whatever you heart desires, from here you download a torrent file and use something like http://www.utorrent.com to download the actual file.

You can download whole albums etc or select files out. Think kazaa but infinitly better.

If you are drafting orthographic or isometric '3D' then auto cad would be better, heaps quicker esp if you get into the keyboard shortcuts.

Inventor and proE are more 3d model orientated, you can assemble modelled parts, 'run' assemblies, eg an engine, it will let you know if anything hits, if you have selected a bolt that is to long for a blank hole, and do stress analysis etc
Haven't got that indepth myself yet but working toward it.
