That is sooooooo old, I don't think I can even remember the geocities passwords to edit the site!!!

And for anyone interested, I mentioned $10k quoted to install an EJ20 - I actually approached Tony Rigoli Performance a few years ago (2001 I think at Auto Salon) and got a quote to fit a EJ, I was told there would be fabricated crossmembers, and that I could have it done drive in, drive out for $10k

About 18 months earlier I was told by SSS Automotive that it was not possible to fit an EJ into either the L series or Brumby type cars.

It was about this time that I decided to stop tinkering with carb L series and sold it to buy a RX sedan (for $9k!!!)

12 months or so later I happened across the first BYB forums I think I was about the 12th or 20th member of the ezyboard, and had my first telephone conversation with Brett about power upgrades on subes - up until this time I had either been laughed at, or only Airsoob message boards were about - and I soon pissed them off with my 19 yo ravings! Oh yeah, you know Autospeed.com? I was on aus.cars when Julian Edgar first proposed that the site be created... Ahhh back when the internet was still mostly text based

A few months after first joining the BYB Forums I sold the RX to a fella named James from Brissy somewhere, he just wanted a second car to drive around when his Mazda MX6 was off the road. I had returned to uni and couldn't afford the loan payments (food or car? hrmmmm) and I bought a 82 auto tourer (that was the original mechawagon and was gutless as hell, it would stop moving forward before spinning the tyres! Last I heard it was still driving out Wagga way. My first RX then moved on to Majjjord from the forums and got made more hardcore. This was the year of the first BYB BBQ and at the BBQ I bought another RX, site unseen from Brett. I learned to change a head gasket that weekend - only to find out the problem was actually the radiator! 6 weeks or so later I learned that old efi subes have a habit of splitting the number 4 injector hose and spraying fuel onto hot turbos...

Thats when I learnt how to fit an EJ into an L series, by this time Marcellus Loh had an article in Autospeed (Grandpa's Subaru) basically saying it was a piece of piss to fit an EJ.

I wonder how many of us "old" subaru tinkerers are on here. The ones that, like you, were mucking around modifying or looking for info on subaru mods. Back when a 2" lift and a twin carb EA82 were hard core.

I first visited the BYB site and joined up back in early 2001 or late 2000. Pretty sure it was pre-EZboard... the site had a black background with yellow text and a very primitive board layout.

The EJ conversion thing is very common now... sort of became vogue around the time I started doing mine. I used to get heaps of emails regarding the conversion however thats all stopped now. There's plenty of info out there nowadays.

I can't remember when I joined the old ez-board, early 2002 I'd guess. It was not long after I bought my 84 wagon. I knew nothing about Subarus (except that they win rallies) and almost nothing about cars at the time. Now I've got an RX where basicaly the only original thing left is the body and the seats! So thankyou to all the helpfull people on here.

Apparently the Ezboard is gone. I found/remembered my SilverRX password and traced back through my last posts and it comes up not found. I think I joined in '99 during a computer class I later failed and dropped as a subject

I joined about the same time, got my first Subaru ('81), learnt heaps off the board and via members in WA, now onto my second one, turbo'ed!

Yay, people still visit our site! I still remember the password Ben if you want to do some updating when you are bored.

Ben put me onto the BYB Ezboard a couple of weeks after he got onto it, I joined in January 2000. As I recall I had over 3700 posts and I used to read EVERY SINGLE POST in each thread. Wish I still had the time to do that.

I remember those days...Couldn't get him off the damn site, then he got me onto it! can't remember what year. I think it was 2002/2003?

I sorta remember the Subaru Shrine website too, Dazz still visits it every now and again. They were my hero's back then! They were the only people I knew that had their own website! Hehehe

nah, we compared cars - at teh time I had the car justin now owns and ben had the white car. we actually met on Autospeed.

Nah, pre autospeed, it was Aus.cars

I went up to the gold coast for the first time for a guy at uni's birthday and stayed at some 'resort'at Mermaid Beach. I told Chris about it and he mentioned he would be in the area at the time so we arranged to meet.

This was the second time I had ever seen a turbo L, Chris's was a green grey import sedan. It had a DIN sized factory radio and Chris had mounted a head unit under the seat with the fascia on the back of the sunvisor - I was very young and impressionable and this was the coolest thing ever.

The other thing was Chris's car was AWD, and had run a high 14's quarter. He took me for a drive along the indy track and we did a full throttle U turn at lights and it just hung on, this was when I decided I would have AWD for the white car.

bloody hell that was a LONG time ago...

I want the DIN panel back!! it made putting a radio in that thing a LOT easier!
