Hey all
Im after a bit of advice about buying a 98 Lancer Wagon.
It has Air/ PS/ Auto/ White and 119,000Kms on the clock
What would you expect to pay for it? Just curious what you think.
Also,.. is there anything i should know about before we go look at it?
Many thanks

Check if the top end has been replaced yet, my parents had one and the valves etc were stuffed at 90,000km!

Thats most likely because the pickup in the sump is tiny. Make sure its been serviced regularly in the past and continue to do so, it does take a fair bit of gunk to block the pickup but it is a known problem on the 4G15 motors.
That said, is it a 1.5 or a 1.8? 4Muff is on the money too, the transmissions are notoriously dodgy, they shift funny when cold and one I saw a while back kept slipping out of gear, ala old Borg Warner with low fluid.
My guess on price would be a lot lower than what 4Muff suggested though, it is a 9 year old motor car after all. Being a wagon probably does help its value though.

Ok thanks guys
It is a 1.8lt Auto but im unsure of model designation GL/CE/GLX ect.
It was owned by an old guy but i dont know about its service history.
The dealer is asking $9990 which is probably a little steep.
Thanks for the tips fellas, any thing else i should look out for?

GL/GLi/GLX etc are the model grades, GL being the pov pack.
CE is the model designation, set out much like Commodore ones. CA Lancers were the first Mitsubishi ones (there were old unrelated Chryslers of the same name), then came CB, CC (my personal fav) then CE.
Although its a bit different to my understanding of them, check the
wiki.

Ah, that makes things a little clearer.
So in your honest opinion, is a lancer of this age a good car for a teenage girl, it has to be low maintainece, free of engine niggles and good on petrol?
Many thanks for your help guys

Provided it has a very clear service history and checks out on a mechanical inspection, it should make a lovely car for a teenage girl.
$10k is a bit steep, but realistically if its immaculate then I guess its a fair price to pay.
