Well the little blokes just turned 2 and already knows he's getting the "bwrumby" when he gets older.

I joked about putting an anchor point in there so I could put his baby seat in and take him in it with me - but I thought I'd look into it and it turns out you can put a baby seat into a ute (front passenger seat) as long as the child is forward facing (not in a capsule) and as long as there is no air-bag in passenger side - freaken beauty!!

Question is - where would I go to get an anchor point put in properly - I'm assuming it would have to be engineered & approved?

Well - I did some more sussing out and read that most 89 and later car models will have an anchour point hole installed already. So I thought I'd go and have a look at the Brumby - and bugger me - there was a hole on the floor under the floor cover behind the seat with a rubber grommet in it.

I grabbed the anchor point I bought from the baby shop and put it in - high tensile bolt, spring washer (split washer?) and all.



It came with a couple of spacers and a large metal disk that appears to act as a large washer - I put this underneat and tightend it all up





I grabbed the baby seat and chucked it in - Don't think I'll let the little bloke see it before I can get an indication that the installation is ok - seems very strong but I've seen holes ripped in floor pans pretty easy.

if you use 2.5mm plate 75mm x 75mm instead of the washer you will have it up to AS1425:2003 for retaining LPG bottle bolts up to 100 litres which would be about 80 kg plus bottle - the washer looks sufficient...but two year olds are hard to come by...

I have some reservations to add / consider here.

Do you know that the hole in that particular vehicle had this specific purpose in mind or are you just assuming?

Hole could be for draining liquids out of cab, running wires / brake fuel lines.

There would be stringent standards for baby seat/capsule retention point, for example seat belt anchorages must be 16mm bolts for example (I know it's not the same for baby seat anchors but still). I'd tend to over-engineer a mount in this situation if I was unsure, as the floor pans are known to bend and I can't see from the pics if it's a reinforced area. Want to make real sure that bolt don't come loose / rust from underneath too.

Just my 2c - it's precious cargo.

Hmmmm 16mm....how u no that?

ive taken belts out of VT commo's whihc are 17mm bolts.
