Does anybody know, or have any experience with laying new floor carpets in cars, and specifically what compound is used to bond the carpet (sound deadening) to the floor of a car?

(Should I not get the answers on here I will shop around and let you all know).

last shop i had carpet put in was an interior shop down here in myaree and they used just a plain simple contact adhesive to stick the prelay to the floor..then sprayed more contact adhesive on to attatch the carpet to the prelay was very simple

i dont exactly know what they use to stick em don with...but make sure u got the actual sound deadening stuff between the carpet adn the floor.

I always thought it was loose and the seats door trims etc held it down. Mind you I have never fully taken the carpets in or out of anything.

from what ive seen in cars... the sound deadening matting and carpet are just cut to shape and moulded and sitting on top

you usually find that the matting has stuck to the black tar based sound deadening on the floor, as they get sticky again when they get hot enough

but if you did want to stick anything down then contact adhesive seems to be the go, something nice and thick like quick grip should do it

I'm pretty sure the actual carpet itself isn't meant to be stuck down. It's held in place around the edges by the trim and center console etc. The sound deadening is stuck down using some kind of adhesive. What I would do is get some of that black tar-like stuff that comes in a spray can. Use that directly on the floor then it will also double as an adhesive to stick the sound deadening "carpet" down.
Then just put the actual car carpet ontop.
