Finally found a positive thing about the Pug’s.

Well other then having the correct offset.
Long story short we decided to go and do some remote touring over the long wkd and three quarters of the way there (unbeknowns to me) the lock nut split pin sheared and the lock nut came undone, the washer and cone washer all fell out and the front left drive shaft almost completely parted company (it was held in by only a few mil).
Lucky for us when this occurred we were by this time on some very remote roads as the car jagged all over the road at 110km/h, with very limited steering and brakes, if there was any oncoming (or other traffic) traffic we would have almost certainly been 1 of the long weekend road death toll statistics.
So why are the Puglies so good…
Well if it was not for those dam ugly rims I would have been walking of the side of the road (for who knows haw far) in an attempt to locate the lock nut and washers. As it turns out the nut and washers were retained in the lil centre bulge of the rim itself and therefore I was able to simply push the shaft back through, put the washers back in do the nut up as tight as possible (given I only had my half inch breaker and no bar extension). I then pinched some thick gauge wire off 1 of the fences, made my own kinda split pin and we were on the road again. I checked the new wire pin several times to make sure it was still there and that had not failed as well… lets just we enjoy the camping in the bush/4WDing and that my wire pin is still in there now and going strong.
