TOONGA wrote:Yep it is because of overfishing in WA (Perth area) that you can't catch fish like you once could.

I have seen Trevally (as a child I watched as they were landed on the beach at a destination undisclosed) as big as the King fish the three of you are holding

bullllllllllllllll

the fish in guys photo is actually a giant trevally, found in warmer water tropical areas (northern australia) only. It is severely uncommon to get them past Geraldton, let alone the SW.

In the SW we have silver trevally, they grow biggish, but not that big. A very large silver trevally would be 3-4kgs. The aussie record is 10kg or so i think.

The fish in guys photo would be at the 20kg mark i reckon.

Think Leeuwin Current Alex and think as well Im old enough to be your dad :)

I was 8 years old and the fish was nearly as big as me and it was a trevally.

Undisclosed beach in the Perth area plenty of Islands off Perth with a direct influence from the LC :)

bloody rare event........DAD(can i borrow 50bux??) :)

i wish i could experience catching them in the southwest. Id give up alot of things to be able to drive afew hunderd km and pick them up.

and yes i do understand the Leeuwin current...its why we had a shocker salmon season this year in the metro area.

Leuwin Current is an interesting one. I think its why you get great whites AND tigers in the same water. Wouldnt surprise me if its the only place in the world you get them both.

Im no expert but have seen plenty on fishing shows. I would have said was a GT...but as i said im no expert. Didnt Guy say was in Seychelles?

BTW Guy, pls tell me "Crush" was released unharmed...Nemo would be so upset! :p

Maybe its a GT, no idea of what they are called in English:s

Yeah the GT was released but others were kept. They are not good far salting. Basically we paid to fish instead of the local fishermen. Each boat must fill one of those big buckets per day. All the fish is then salted and exported.
