Vortex - For Sale

Post by DavesB4 » Sat May 25, 2013 3:38 pm

Hello

This has been a bit of a difficult decision but at the end of the day, nothing is forever.... And our grandson doesn't fit in the back in the child seat any longer without his knees being around his ears.

Things that you need to know...
  • It has had the 5 stud conversion. Using Liberty/Impreza bits and pieces in the front and genuine XT6 rear hubs
  • Have you noticed the rims? These are 16" JDM Forester Accessory rims. Pretty uncommon in Oz if I do say so myself. The tyres on these are very roadworthy Kumhos.
  • There are STi pink coilover shocks all around. Ride is quite firmish but not disastrously harsh
  • It has reasonably newish and matched Pioneer speakers all around.
  • It actually drives quite well
  • There are some spare parts available - not many, but anyone is welcome to them
  • And of course - it stands out in a carpark. You'll find this baby easily in a carpark full of Toyotas and Hyundais
Some other things that you also need to understand...
  • Rego expired on March 12th. It will need to be trailered.
  • The pics above were taken just after it was registered a few years ago now. It has been daily driven by my daughter since then.
  • The top mount on the Left Rear Shock will need to be remanufactured and replaced. It has worn badly and the shock is no longer firmly mounted at the top. There are no rubber mounts on the top of either shock at the rear.
  • There is a severe vibration under brakes. This is despite me replacing all 4 disc rotors with brand new parts within the past 12 months. Only occurs under brakes and is really bad when exiting the freeway. I think it could be fixed with an alignment and new or reskimmed rotors?
  • The paint isn't as nice as it once was. It's still shiny, but there a few places where it has been attacked in car parks. Not totally ugly, but would be much nicer with some TLC and repairs.
  • Lifter noise... Oh how I Looovvvvve Subaru Hydraulic lifters (My RS Liberty suffers the same disease) It comes and goes as it pleases and you do actually get used to it
  • There are a couple of bits of interior trim missing and of course the dash trim is like everyone else's - in multiple pieces and glued together (Does anyone have a nice and newish one of those?)
  • The LHS electric window doesn't work. But the RHS one is fabulous )
  • The electric radio aerial has been replaced with a manual one for the time being. And it is also broken. $10 will get a brand newie. And the radio (non standard - from an MY99 Outback) works even though the lights inside it don't.
  • Numerous rattles and squeaks
  • Did I mention that the sunroof leaks? - But you knew that didn't you?
  • There is also a leak around the Rear LH corner somewhere. It might be from the sunroof as well but it drips quite badly onto the back seat if it is left out in the rain for any length of time
This car has been enjoyable to build and own for the time we have had it. Someone who really wants one of these wouldn't have a lot of work to do to make it all really nice again.

So how much do I want for this little gem?

I'd really like 5 or 10,000 dollars but I am realistic enough to accept just $2,500. And if you talk to me nicely, and promise to treat it nice, I might even accept something less.

Here are some more pics

MY13 Outback - The new blue one.
MY99 Outback - As it's maker intended - but with a fresher engine now.
1994 RS Turbo - Not quite so stock! And freshly repainted now :)
And then there's the family Vortex - rebuilt, updated and now unregistered and gathering dust in the shed.
