WTB: timing covers / No.2 cam sprocket / Cam sensor

Post by dyrgutt » Sun Mar 17, 2013 12:57 pm

[Suit a 2.5L, but I Imagine these parts would be common to most?]

Hey guys, i'm after a camshaft sprocket/pulley/wheel/whatever [no.2 - the one that has the camshaft position sensor behind it]. Mine is kaput! I'm also after the position sensor as well, and the plastic timing covers. Does anyone have a wreck / buggered motor they wouldn't mind ratting for a few bucks [or swapping]? Cheers guys.

I will have the LH Camshaft Pulley but will not be home for 2.5 weeks. As for the Camshaft sensor and covers, I would have them too but would recommend you contact Frog (Andy) as they aren't too expensive new and would highly recommend you use a new sensor everytime.

...Normally I couldnt agree more RSR 555, but I just want to make sure this little labour of love runs before throwing anymore time/energy at it. Though, I might hold off getting the covers until I make sure she turns over and runs, in which case - i'll hit-up andy for some decent goodies. As she's really a project, i'm not fussed about the 2.5 weeks mate, so let us know what you're chasing/after for the sprocket and sensor? Thanks Peter

No worries Peter, you may need to remind me as time gets closer.

Normally I'd let people in WA take the sensor and try it out, then if it works, I ask them to bring mine back and buy themselves a new one but seeing as you're over East, this will be hard.

Can you tell us why you suspect your one is a problem?

Sorry for the tardy reply RSR, I've been flat out...yeah, my sensor took some impact along with the sprocket - but more damage was inflicted than I first thought. I was in the process of removing the sensor when I noticed the alloy bracket that holds it appeared a little skew; so upon wiggling it, she snapped off!!! *grrr*. Better to find out now I suppose. Anyhow, you wouldn't want to get rid of that bracket as well would you? - haha. Thanks mate.

Hey Frog, thanks for the offer mate - but I imagine all that gear would probably be more than what the motor is worth brand new [...as I'm not sure it's even going to run]. I have a fair bit of Forester MY00 gear that I could swap with someone if they're keen? Thanks guys.

Yep. I found the engine and will be able to get the bits off it this weekend. I did notice the Camshaft sensor was missing, so I guess it was used on something else. I've been fighting for room since building the office/engine room but now that it's done, I'll be able to move some stuff around. Sorry for the delay

Awesome mate, bugger about the sensor being removed...hopefully the small alloy bracket that holds the sensor is available, though? Cheers Peter

Hey Peter, I'm 99% sure the bracket is still there. I will check and if it's there, it's yours.

Hey Peter, yes I finally had success. I think I have everything except the sensor? The LHR cover is broken in the usual spots (where the nuts are moulded into) but it was holding the front cover on, so you'll get away with it for now.

1x LHF timing cover
1x LHR timing cover
1x LH timing sprocket
1x Camshaft sensor bracket

I have them ready to post. Are you able to PM me your postal details?

Cheers,
Paul
