wanted ea81 engine

Post by velocityboy » Fri Feb 01, 2013 11:15 am

Isn't it always the way, I have thrown away several good EA81's over the years and now I need one. If you have a rebuildable ea81 I would be interested at the right price. I have just bought a 1st series Brumby and want to build a nice motor as a small upgrade over the ea71. I am in Brisbane so anywhere between the gold and sunshine coasts would be good.

Hey mate
Not sure on the difference between ea81 and 82
But I have an 82 motor complete going
Not started for a while

Also I have an 85 rx turbo
2inch lift and struts
Ej22 conversion with high/low range box
LSD diff
4wheel disk brakes
Good looking bull bar
Full chequered interior
14 alloy wheels with good all terrains

It would make your car go real nice

EA82 are completely different. I have a couple of EA81 but I'm a bit far away :(

I have one sitting in storage in Coorparoo that I need to get rid of - it has no manifold. Purchased running/no issues off eBay a while ago but I can't be sure how many km it has on it.

Let me know what you'd give me for it and it's probably yours, especially if you can pick up.

I'll PM you my phone number.

Oh.. I just notice the reference to the 's1' and EA71.. if you're going to try and fit the EA81, then you'll need to use the EA81 gearbox, as the start motor sits in a different spot.

Or.. This might be just wishful thinking but you might be able to try swapping the engine's bellhousing over??

Thanks for the tip RSR, I didn't know that one. Have attached a photo for those that are interested. I'm super happy with it, it has 2 of the smallest rust spots (about 5mm in each door). It is what I really wanted first off for a ej20t conversion but I could not find one so I did the conversion on my '89 Brumby instead. Having said that I won't be doing that sort of conversion on this one because it is in just too good a condition to chop up.

Having had a bit of experience with the EA71, it is actually a very good motor - punches well above its weight. Responds well to nice exhaust and a decent carb.

If it were me, and the 71 was ok, I don't think you will find a lot difference over the 81

showthread.php?t=19731&highlight=ej20+turbo+brumby

This is a link to my EJ20t Brumby for Subarute. Can't imagine selling the 1st gen Brumby in th foreseeable future,,sorry. I'll take some pics of it if it ever stops raining here in Brissy and make a new thread to post in. It's a funny thing, I had given up on looking for an early Brumby about a year ago then I found a pic of this car when looking at something else and pounced on it.

Hmm, how did you find that pic? I got it ready to post but thought I deleted it because I decided I will post it later. No drama just confused. The dog is my new lab pup and his name is Monty (as in Python). He does look like he wants a to go for a ride but as soon as the car moves he will climb all over me to try and get out. I always wanted a dog that will like to go for a run in the car but the last 2 have hated it, go figure?
