MY 6 gauge analogue dash

I know it's a long shot, but I've got to try
I am seriously desperate for an MY 6 guage instrument cluster and wiring like out of an older touring wagon or sedan. This is starting to hold up my progress on the project wagon and if I can't find one soon I'm going to have to ditch the long type dash board that I've got and go back to the povvo pack standard dash and instruments

Or try and find a newer model cluster that might fit in the space and adapt the wiring to work.
Because what I'm after is so rare I would take anything at almost any price; 2WD, 4WD, auto, manual, any year model I don't care. At worst I would have to add some 4WD lights and I plan on over-hauling the whole front end wiring of the car anyway.
The local Subaru-reck'ers in town have proven to be no help, no other wreckers yards stock cars that old apart from U pull it which have been slim pickings lately. I've looked at Jap imports, half cuts and car parts sites but drew a blank, nobody over there even seems to entertain the idea of a car that old

I found a Leone sedan being wrecked on gumtree, ad had been up for 10 days and when I rang the cluster was already gone.
So if anybody has one of these lying around or has a car with one sitting in a paddock somewhere, anywhere, I would even fly over and rip it out myself if I had to.

If you get desperate there is an electronic dash from a MY tourer at a wreckers near me - could be used in place of the analog as a placeholder so you can continue the build.

My thoughts too. I've got a few of these kicking around if you get really desperate SB.
Go with the long style dash for the build - you'll get a 6 gauge cluster in the end!

I've seen plenty of digi-dashes, could get one easily. If they were actually reliable and didn't have a reputation for going kaput I would have one since I think they look pretty cool. But the wiring for them is very (
very) different so if I went with a digi then converted to analogue later down the track if and when I find one, I would have to re-wire everything again which is not really what I want to do

Plus I could go through all the trouble of wiring in a digi dash and getting it all to work only for it to fry internally 6 months later.

The wiring from memory is plug and play with a couple of screw down earth wires. It's not hard to do.
I did mine on the floor in the house due to still using the vehicle daily at the time. I'm 99% sure you can do it in the vehicle.
And just thinking about this while I write, I know of a coupe that's in a wall of partially crushed cars at Imalachs in Springvale. I'm sure it's got a 6 gauge cluster in it - but getting it and the wiring out would be near impossible. Crush the roof down to the window sill height, add some cars on top of it and you'll get the picture (if it's still there, been ages since I've been to the parts yards

)
As for the digi dash - speak to Subi Doug, I think he's worked out the issue that fries them and a solution around it. If you're keen on a digi dash that might be the way to go.
Don't loose hope/faith/sight of the bigger goal at hand!
Cheers

The wiring would be plug and play on a stock car, but like I said I'm over-hauling and changing the wiring a bit so if I chose digital I'd have to stay digital. As for the one under a pile of cars, if they had a forklift I could use to dig it out I'd be there with a sawzall and an oxy torch next week

From what I read in Doug's thread he couldn't fix the digi one and put an analogue one in instead, as most people have done.
Maybe I'll start ringing other wreckers yards around the country, there's got to be one somewhere. I'm also sick of hearing "I'll have a look and get back to ya" and never hearing from them again

I'd actually be less offended if they just told me to piss off.

I doubt this mob would go to that effort for you - it means moving other cars out of the way just to get to the wall to then move more vehicles
If you've got a cool grand kicking around I know a guy with a coupe - old Italian fella that won't budge on the price. I was thinking $200 as it's got some significant rust under the windscreen and the rats haven't been toilet trained at all...
Otherwise I'll keep looking for you.

Thanks Bennie I appreciate the keeping an eye out. At this stage I would consider anything, and I've spent alot more than $1k in one go on this car before

If you're really desperate, there are two JDM MY RX coupes and a JDM MY touring wagon sitting in a wrecker's yard in Crowmwell. Take a look on trademe, search for subaru leone and it's the auction for 'subaru 80 to 85 parts'. Transtasman shipping could be a killer though, depending on whether he's willing to deal with you anyway.

I did get my Digi going...sort of. I then promptly fried it on the bench some how and it refused to power back up I threw it out long ago. The wiring is different between digi and analogue. The digi has 3 round plugs where the analog only has 2. All the wires seem to match in color and application so it was just a matter of repinning the round plugs and matching the rest up to the other plugs (which from memory had all the wiring for the little dash car indicator thingymabob.
If you find a working digi dash SB I will swap you if you like. My analogue one isnt too bad. It has 510k on the clock though making the speedo needle a little bit shaky. There are 3 cracks in the plastic but all the gauges work and the bulbs are all good. It is an auto version so no LO light and I think its had the clock wiring cut off of the back but I honestly cant remember. Anyway, offer stands.

Doug

Thank you KiwiL that is a great lead, I have registered on that site and asked a about shipping but his listing says "No text talk questions" so I'm not sure what this means.
And Doug thanks a heap for the offer, I couldn't understand why you would give up the 6 gauge for a digi dash though I would feel like I was cheating you

I will definitely look into it; as I said I've come across many digi-dashes at the self serve wreckers here so next time I see one I'll grab it + wiring and if it works we'll make a deal

My wagon is pretty much a beach car now, I occasionally use it for work, but the vortex is more comfortable so its my daily. End of the day It isnt a big deal to me if my speedo is analog or digital, just as long as it tells me how fast im going

.
Next time I talk to PaulRSR Il ask for you.
Regards
Doug

DING DING DING!!!
hi,yes i have those parts and i will freight to aussie but it wont be cheap, theres a lot of work getting out wiring looms
Well I think that has me sorted, a dash from a genuine Leone RX Coupe should suit me just fine
Thanks to everyone who posted, and KiwiL for putting me onto this auction site, I probably wouldn't have found it otherwise. This is the reason I love these forums

My original MY Touring wagon dash was acting odd.
This may have been due to sensors and not the dash BUT what I did was stick an add with Australian wreckers on-
http://www.findapart.com.au/
There were 2 or 3 replies and I ended up getting one for something like $70 (cant recall exactly).
Just keep in minds unless you state you want one from a 4WD you will probably end up with a dash from a Coupe.
These dashes wont have the lights for 4WD. This isn't a problem if you already have an analogue dash as you just need to remove the 4WD light box and swap it over to the Coupe dash.
I am really interested to know (this is an open question to everyone) are the 4WD lights different between the auto and the manual dash. ?
My original dash is from an auto (that is what the car was) and it only had the one 4WD light (no dual range 4WD) but I don't know if the manual MY Touring wagon dash had another light for low range.
Anyway, best of luck, I am keeping both of my dashes for now and I do recommend Find a part to (usually) get a response. I you don't get a response leave it a bit and try again as wreckers get cars in on a regular basis.

Hi Cliff, I tried findapart but haven't heard anything in a couple of weeks. Also this dash from NZ is coming from a genuine Leone RX coupe, this had dual range 4WD from factory along with another little gem under the bonnet

So it should have 4WD and 4WD LO lights.

I am keen to know how you go with this dash.
Let me know what lights it has so I can also look for a manual dash if need be.
My first add to Findapart was simply for a full, 6 gauge dash.
I realised my mistake when it arrived and I noted it was probably from a Coupe.
A few months later when I put another add in and stipulated it needed to be from a manual 4WD I had no replies.
Hope all goes well or you.

I'd double check that this dash from NZ is a 6 gauge as there was a 4 gauge variant that we didn't get. It doesn't have the volts or the oil pressure gauges.
And what's coming from under the bonnet, the pressure sender unit or a dual carb setup? I can't think of any other "trick" items from an ea81...

Will do Cliff, all of the info will go in my resto interior thread when I get around to it.
Bennie, that's good to know thanks. If it is a genuine RX coupe though it will have the 6 gauge that I'm after, and it has the same dash I have as I can see through the windscreen in the few pics on that listing. Also if it is a genuine RX coupe it will have a twin carb twin port under the bonnet as has been confirmed to me by the seller

I'll be sure to ask for some more detailed pics first.
Shouldn't get ahead of myself though, early days yet he might want some outlandish figure for all this gear, never mind the shipping as well!

Great to get a prompt response like that, especially on the weekend! I've seen other JDM RX coupes on Trademe before, and they've all had the 6 guage dash. Here's one, with a very special ex-Possum Bourne rally engine:
http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/special ... 225722.htm
Definitely has the six-gauge dash,
All were pt4wd and dual-range, with a close ratio 4 speed and ea81s.
From reading your comments on the auction Sam, I thought you already had an EA81S? Or did you only have the heads?
I have to say your build is one I've been excited about for a while now and it's great to see it coming together! Just hope that jopson fella doesn't want an outrageous price... Link him your build thread.
Cheers,
Luke
