EJ22 engine, low km good condition

Post by NachaLuva » Tue Jun 02, 2015 11:09 pm

Wanted: a low km EJ22 phase II engine in good condition. I can do timing belt if needed but would be a bonus if done.

PM me if you have one or know someone who does...Image

phase 2 - does that mean gen2?

I still have that low kms 92gx motor we talked about a while back. If i can sell it for a reasonable price I can afford to fix my head gaskets when they get bad enough.

let me know if you are interested.

Phase I engines are non interference, phase II are interference.

I'm really after a phase II but thanks anyway :)

so you would prefer an interference engine with less low down torque?

why do you prefer the later engines. im interested

I thought the later phase II was higher compression so had more low down torque?

i'm not sure which year models you are referring to by "phase 2" but I have done a lot of miles in gen1 and gen2 libs.

gen1 ej22 has far better low down torque.
gen2 ej22 revs more freely and is much better on fuel.

more compression equating to better torque low down is an assumption. go drive a couple before you make your mind up.

According to Wikipedia, phase I is '86-'96, phase II is '97-'99. Phase II has 10% more power and 3% more economy than phase I but what you're saying sounds right that phase I has more low down torque, which is what is best for offroad.

Good news is I've found an engine with only 120k kms and just had the timing belt done. Its a phase I, '92 with 3mth 10,000km warranty. Hopefully picking it up in the next few days
