EJ22 motor wanted in Melbourne

I have a 1975 Volkswagen bus powered by EJ22 for many years, and finally this motor has problems. The conrod bearings have gone. I have had quotes for second hand motors for $660 from wreckers for EJ22, and $880 for EJ22 with new rocker gaskets and cam belt with 3 month warranty.
I thought I would try here and see if anyone has a running Subaru they are planning a late model or turbo conversion, and the original EJ22 will not be required, and I can give cash to a person rather than a business if possible.
I already have everything, just mainly the long engine is required, I already have the computer, igniter, fuel pump, exhaust etc. This is just a replacement for an already running, but sick motor. It sounds like a monkey is inside with a shifting spanner, trying to get out.

Where are you Peter?
A pick a part joint could be the go, $220 for a complete engine (or there abouts, prices just changed and haven't seen them yet). You could drop that in while you rebuild the monkey one. Problem is that you don't know the condition when you get it unless the car has been written off - which is usually a good indication that the motor was running well...

Tried the local Pic -apart. They only had L series, no EJ engines. The Suby and Jap wreckers were the ones I rang to get the above prices, and they all seemed pretty much on par with each other. I just think that if I can save a few bucks, and someone else can get a few, and we are both happy, then it may work out a good swap.

Where are you Peter?
If you are in Victoria, Im sure Pick-A-Part and Jollys would have EJ22s for somewhat $180-$220?
Cheers

Still looking for EJ22. No hurry, just letting anyone who has one they may need to offload.

There was a good one down at centre road wreckers - I can't remember what its called now, as its changed hands.
There was a rolled liberty with 21xxxx km on the clock, the best pick of the bunch as far as I'm concerned. If I had the money i would be in my shed waiting to be dropped into the mighty (yet in need of some TLC) L series...
Happy hunting.

Still looking. Not all wreckers have one at the moment, and those that do have either unusual conditions, or the price is hundreds more than I would expect.
I can wait.

$800 is NOT the going rate for an EJ22 motor by itself. If you pay that you are being ripped off. You should be able to get one for around $500 and that would most likely be including the wiring loom and ECU. It's worth paying a little more for one with less than say 150,000kms on it.
Look around and you should find one for a reasonable price. Try checking out your local damaged cars auctions.
fyi just today Matt just bought an entire EJ22 liberty with extremely minor front end damage (not even ruptured radiator) for $800 flat - only 180,000kms and in very very good condition.
