resetting airbags

Post by handsofakiller » Thu Jul 28, 2011 7:56 pm

I need to reset my passenger side front airbag (impreza RX MY00), any suggestions in installation appart from taking it to a subaru workshop? I can get a second hand airbag for it, but everyone says it's dangerous. I know nothing about replacing airbags, so I dont know if its true or if it is just internet hype and there is an easy way to do this.

Buying secondhand airbags is like buying secondhand brake pads.

You know nothing about airbags?

Do you know anything about pyrotechnics?

Continue at your own risk.

yes buy one second hand it would be half the cost and twice the fun as you would never know when it would deploy :) having worked in a wrecking yard Ive seen how they are removed and I would never trust one

Ask on Rexnet, I've heard of heaps of guys replacing them with 2nd hand ones on the WRX forums.

It is very simple and easy to replace with second hand ones. Just unplug and unbolt and bolt in and plug in the new one.

The airbags will not go off unless there is very dodgy wiring going on. Also the g force impact sensor should not need to be replaced unless it is crushed (mounted on the chassis rail behind the bumper)

You will know if the air bag system is not working properly as the airbag warning light will not go off when you start the car.
